Excellent evening meal & breakfast. Excellent service at both. In the evening, at least on the Friday we were there, many tables had been booked by diners not staying in the hotel - suggesting the restaurant has a strong local reputation.

The staff were friendly & very helpful throughout our stay.

But we did have problems with the room.

Our room was, it turned out, within earshot of a cupboard in the hall that concealed, as we now understand, the hot water boiler for the whole building that the room was in. Attached to the boiler was a quite noisy pump. As and when any guest anywhere in the building took a shower, the pump, however far into the small hours of the night or early in the morning it was, started up and ran until the shower had finished.

We were told afterwards that the hotel is newly opened, that management are aware that pump noise can be a problem & that they have been taking steps to have the problem dealt with. They willingly gave us a rebate on our bill for the disturbance we suffered.

There was also a problem that our room, while having a good view of the ornamental pond, had a path running under the window used by the occasional guests going past. You can close the curtains if it bothers you, or book a room on higher floor.

Most of the rooms are not on the ground floor. If & when we stay again, we will insist on having a room on the upper floor. The 'village' is an interesting, quirky, generally comfortable place. Patrick McGoohan would feel at home. There are, thankfully, no televisions or other audio equipment provided in the rooms. And, both breakfast & dinner are excellent.

We stayed in the Village on February 12th 2011 in one of the new suites. The venue is outstanding, really beautiful and very different. The suite we booked was one of 17 hotel suites, it was really modern, spacious and really the highlight of the trip. The suites are all slightly different so book the Ryan suite or Irlandais suite as I understand they are even nicer than ours (if possible).

We had booked in for food at 8pm in La Serre retaurant on site. As it was raining we were collected by golf buggy (otherwise its a short 5 min walk). We arrived down to dinner to be greated with 2 complimentary glasses of champagne. The menu was very varried - Monkfish, Lobster, Duck, Rabbit etc , abd the food was to die for. What was really great is everything was included in our booking even wine - which we didnt expect and made the trip great value

After the meal we sat back in the bar and actually had great banter with the bar manager who even made us a really nice bespoke cocktail on the house.

My only complaint would be breakfast the next morning, we were served by a waiter who was very unfriendly and service was very slow, he was quite rude and a tota contrast to everyone else we metat the village.

Over all this is a 5 star venue, a total find !! I will absolutly return and recomend it to friends and family.

My Tip : if you are partial to TV bring your laptop and some DVD's as the suites do not have tv's they are supposed to be tranquil

I stayed in the new suites last night in the Village at Lyons. They're pretty unbelievable. Beautiful, unique furnishings, biggest rain shower head I've ever seen, super comfy bed, really spacious in the most wonderful old world stone clad building. It was really quiet - thanks to their quiet room policy no TVs! Some people mightn't like that - but I thought it was great. Also ate in La Serre - delicious and reasonably priced. Staff were really attentive and even brought fresh pastries and fruit to my room because I had to leave early in the morning and would miss breakfast.
Highly recommended.
