A jewel accommodation situated in wonderful Co Kildare

Ballindrum is an archetypical Farm B&B which is the centre of a working dairy Farm surrounded by beautiful Irish counrtryside. Look out of your window to watch the chickens pecking happily away in their free range pen with the odd escapee making it 'over the wire' - although why they would want to get away from this haven I am not sure!

The cows in this busy farm are milked daily and with the consent of the charming host, Vincent, you may be able to watch the early milking which is a fascinating and highly mechanised operation. The young heffers gambol in the surrounding fields and even if the weather is gloomy the mood is soon lifted by the gourmet breakfast soon to follow.

Returning to the farmhouse you are met by the ubiquitous and effivescent landlady, Mary, who will take your breafast order - freshly laid eggs amongst a cornucopia of freshly cooked delights - miss the bacon at your peril!

Vincent and Mary were born to be 'mine hosts' - nothing is too much trouble and they make you feel at home immediately. If you are lucky whilst relaxing in the evening you may also be treated to a song or two from 18 year old Joe, the bard of Ballindrum, whom we have watched mature from a pubescent child warbler into a serious challenger to Aled Jones!

The rooms at Ballindrum are spacious and spotlessly clean with tea-making facilities and TV. The whole atmosphere is friendly and accommodating and the homely dining room is a good setting for early banter with other guests and tales of derring-do at the races. (Punchestown is only 30 minutes drive away and Ballindrum is a perfect antidote for impecunious punters seeking to recover for another day!). Athy is the nearest town, 10 minutes by car and the local pubs are full of connoisseurs of Guinness who all appear to be related to Ruby Walsh!!

My racing colleague and I have just returned from our thirteenth visit to Ballindrum having spent three days at Punchestown Races. We may be poorer from the racing but we are definitely richer from our annual stay at Ballindrum - simply a must for the discerning traveller to Ireland. Ben Gunn

Room Tip: All rooms are spacious, clean and well provisioned - rear rooms overlook the farm

Mary's Bed and Breakfast was the best B&B that we stayed at in Ireland & scotland.
Mary was very accommodating & extremely nice. It was truly a delight to stay two nights at her place. It was very clean. It was a real treat to see new born cows and how the milking takes place. I would highly recommend her B&B to anyone thinking about staying.

On our way to lovely Kenmare/Kerry, we stopped for the night at Ballindrum B&B.

While much has been written about Irish gentle and caring demeanour, this is a real treat.

Savoury and varied breakfast, spacious and comfortable accommodation (4 of us), and great chat with Mary on farming, family, and the wonders of technology.

      Everything you'd expect from a well-run B&B plus a personal, charming touch.

To top it all off, we had a chance to attend the morning milking process -a highly automated affair these days.

Major thumbs up for Ballindrum B&B!

Great place t spend the weekend. You get pampered with fresh scones and tea on arrival.
a great breakfast and spotlessly clean accommodation. We stayed on the ground floor. maybe next time I would choose the first floor. Reduces floor noise.

First of all, I'm about to spend my night here, but I already feel compelled to say what a delight it has been so far. I'm overnighting as I've been in Kildare for work; and I'm travelling back to London later today. It took the cab driver a little while to find it, but we called Mary for directions and the solutions came straight away!

Greeted by a lovely smile, offer of tea or coffee, shown to my room and a bed I knew I was going to fall into and rest/sleep soundly. Not only was tea ready folks, scones with butter and jam were present too. I've been lucky enough to stay in some swanky hotels, but this personal touch is second to none.

My room has all I need; well stocked bathroom, tea making facilities, loads of biscuits, comfy bed. I'm looking forward to taking photos of the place in daylight in the morning.

The only drawback for me, not for them, is that I'm coming here for work only at the moment and, because it's quite far from my workplace, next time I will have to make do with somewhere closer to work. But I will definitely recommend this place, 100% 😘

Room tip: I arrived at night time so can't say!

Booked this online and arrived early evening after flying in. Mary greeted us and showed us to our very comfy room. View from our upstairs room was beautiful. Breakfast was amazing. Best we have experienced in Ireland. Lovely to walk down to milking shed and chat with other farming folk. Would suggest this be your first choice for a B&B if you passing thru this area. You'll not be dissapointed. Thanks Mary 👍
