Taking into account the fact that the location is ideal, the view spectacular and the staff so lovely, this establishment falls short of my initial expectation. Normally when staff are friendly, but the food is subpar, I let it go and feel no need to provide any feedback. However in this instance, when you charge €4 for two pieces of stale bread, €10 for canned soup, €12 for undercooked frozen pizza that is cold and greasy in the centre, and €18 for fish nuggets that wouldn’t compete with the likes of McDonalds, that goes the point of annoyance, it’s actually insulting to customers intelligence to think you can charge such extortion. This establishment has taken advantage of the fact there is slim to no competition in the hospitality industry within the Roundstone area, and is charging a shocking amount for the quality of food that we received. Disappointment doesn’t begin to describe my feeling sitting at this table infront of my full plate - robbed would be more accurate.

This disappointed from the minute we open the door. There was NO atmosphere.
To be honest, it was so quiet in the restaurant, I felt the need to whisper. The bar was absolutely Baltic
I’m tested we felt came directly from a freezer. There was no possibility that the chef could make any adjustments to allow for food, allergies. No room to change your dish as described on the menu. It clearly came prepacked. - NO flexibility.
I really like eating out, but I have to say this was being robbed - frozen chips should never appear on a restaurant table.

The only item on the menu that I was able to eat due to food allergy was steak. I requested that that was lean as possible. - it was like rubber.

Salmon starter looked again, as if it had been thrown together as a salad - mixed leaves- no decoration or presentation of any description again it could’ve been bought locally and put on a bed of lettuce. There was no chef involved we felt.

In 2024 to not be able to adjust a menu reeks of “no Chef Here!”

I’m not going to rate this cafe quite as harshly as the previous reviewer, despite suffering the same bizarre service experience (as I was in the same group).

With one notable exception, the staff were pretty friendly but the food was very lack lustre as well as being ludicrously slow to arrive. Having traveled extensively around Ireland, I’ve always thought you can’t go wrong with a bowl of seafood chowder and local bread but sadly I was proved wrong here.

I would add that the pretty unforgivable explanation for the slow service didn’t make sense even at a basic level, as the neighbouring table to us also had to place their own order at the till (writing it on a chit themselves before handing it in) but their food was delivered fairly quickly.

Bit weird to give a one star review to an otherwise pretty good cafe, but I just had a slightly bonkers experience there!

Food = Good ✔️
Service - erm 🫤

Here’s the story;

Came into this cafe when it was empty, sat down upstairs (great view btw), no one came to serve us so, trying to be helpful, we just went down to the till and gave our order to the nice guy there.

Then the cafe fills up with people, and literally every single table got served their order before us…

So I go downstairs and ask the woman (with cool tattoos) now at the till when we might get our order and she literally tells me to my face that she doesn’t like people who don’t order with her at their table, so she’s put our order right to the back of the queue (The nice guy who was there when we ordered originally standing to the side looking quite embarrassed, but tbh she’s so grumpy I don’t blame him for being scared of her! 😂)

So I ask if I’ve actually misunderstood the craziness of what she’s saying and she literally just repeats it back to me. So then I ask when we might actually get the order and she says “I don’t care, order at your table next time ” !!

I was so gobsmacked I was actually laughing at the audacity of it. I go back upstairs to recount the story to my 83 years old mum and dad, and they think I’m kidding. But I’m really not. Still struggling to work out where someone gets that amount of cheek from.

It’s a real shame as it’s a decent place, but that attitude’s going to take its toll on their reputation at some point.

Anyway, if you do visit… Don’t under any circumstances try and be helpful if they’re short staffed. Wait at your table!! 😂
