“Nice location but filthy! ”

The house is very nice and a great location, a very unique opportunity to stay ON a harbour. Nearby beaches and wonderful breathtaking views. The house is well equipped, has wifi and freeview tv. HOWEVER the house was filthy, I don't know if this was because it was off season or if the owner had forgotten our arrival ( giving benefit of doubt there) the first hour and a half of our trip was spent cleaning. As there was only us 2 and our son we only had to clean the main rooms and quarantined the rest. I'm talking dead spider in the fridge, splatters of liquids up the walls, hairs in the bathroom etc. I even had to place some marigolds on and scrub the toilet and shower, not exactly relaxing. Also meant we couldn't prepare food as the kitchen was filthy. Such a shame really as potential to be a great house.

Management Response

Dear Chris & Leanne

I am absolutely devastated that that was your experience at the Quay House. I am sure if you have read the other online reviews we have never received such comments and I was shocked that you found the house in need of "quarantine".

We have always gone to great lengths to ensure the standards are kept high at the house. We paint it every year from top to bottom and it was painted 2 months ago. We dry clean the curtains on a regular basis and ensure that all bed linen and towels ares not just professionally laundered but replaced regularly.

Please rest assured that I will be addressing this situation and I take comments like this very seriously as it greatly impacts our business. My main aim will be that no future guest ever has to experience what you did.

I know this is of little consolation to you now but if you had expressed your feelings about the cleanliness at the time I would have cleaned the house for you personally, especially as I was on the quay for a quite a time after you checked in. No one should have to spend an hour and half cleaning a premises after check in. I am truly upset that this is what you had to do.

All I can do is apologise profusely.

Yours regretfully

Anne Ashe

Fantastic views of the Twelve Pins and ever changing vistas of sea and sky. Large comfortable rooms, good facilities, highly recommended for a relaxing holiday.

“Just About Perfection”
Reviewed 3 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

It is hard to imagine a nicer place to stay than this. Roundstone itself (at least in quiet March) is a lovely village: pretty, with good restaurants, and superbly set in a wonderful landscape of ample water, wide empty boglands, hills and mountains. All of which are immediately visible from the windows of the lounge and the two front bedrooms of this very conformable and very well appointed house right on the quay of Roundstone Harbour. The windows are important, especially the massive one in the lounge/dining room; the light is constantly changing as one looks out across the bay towards the Twelve Pins, and it's unlikely that I, for one, would ever tire of the view. Even on the one day when we had consistently grey, wet, windy weather, there was always something of interest to look at. A tip if you are going to stay here or anywhere else in Roundstone or close-by: get yourself a copy of Tim Robinson's 'Connemara: Listening to the Wind'. It's a great book: very readable, endlessly informative and surprising (and often very funny), and once you've been to Roundstone you'll feel as if you've been walking around in that book for a while.

The Quay House was simply fantastic. The scenery from the bedroom windows is stunning, from the harbour to the Bens to the islands. Our 21 year old told me that he now understands the meaning of 'getting away from it all'. A great place to relax, walk, cycle, fish and eat great food. The house itself was perfect, spotlessly clean and with every convenience and very comfy beds. Dealing with Anne and Simon couldn't have been easier. We will definitely be back!
