Many times I have passed this building in Dalkey, which in a former life was probably a bank but last week was the first time I actually went inside. We had visitors from UK and 1909 had been recommended and we weren;t disappointed.Having made the reservation 3 days earlier we were lucky to get the last table for the Saturday night.
There is a 2 course or 3 course menu for a set ,price up to 6.30 but after that the same menu goes up by 10euro.
The starters were good. Two of us had a large Yorkshire pudding filled with little pieces of beef and other stuff. Very tasty and filling. Two others had vegetarian mains and were very pleased. there was an excellent strip loin steak cooked to perfection while I had a chicken breast with excellent sauce. After that only one of our party could manage a dessert which if I am honest was disappointing having waited a very long time for it. a creme brulee.
The bill for 5 came to around 230euro which included a bottle of wine. Initially we found it very noisy apart from a pianist who played piano at the other end of the restaurant but was relayed up our end. We had to ask if the sound could be turned lower which it was and we enjoyed the rest of the evening.
