We decided to go to Ballyhannon Castle and Coach house for our 50th Wedding Anniversary after our stay in the castle in 2009. It was a spectacular experience. We decided then and there that this is the perfect setting for our 50th.
We expected it to be spectacular, we were not ready for it to be out of this world. We had 28 family, and friends snuggled into the castle and coachhouse for 10 days. We had family from England and the US including from California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Everyone was blown away, not only by the amazing castle, coach house and grounds but by the personal attention to detail given by Margaret and Liam (owners of the castle).
It was an amazing experience for all of us! The background, the setting, the magic, wrapped us in gossamer and spun us into another world.
It affected all of us.
On the day of our ceremony, the sky was a vivid blue with nary a cloud (and it was mid March)! It started out with a little sprinkle in the early morning to freshen the grass and was perfect all day even into the full moon at night, lighting the castle.
We had the ceremony in the great room in the castle. Our celebrant was Dara Molloy and he had everybody in tears as he guided us through the most beautiful ceremony. (He was a recommendation of Liam and Margaret).
Aron and Leah played at the ceremony and the music was from heaven. We had music in the castle dining room with Aron playing with the ensemble of two.
We had dinner after the ceremony where Brian Mortell from Mortell Deli and Seafood Restaurant in Limerick prepared a traditional Irish meal that was magnificent! He set up the coach house to seat 36 people. He did that while the ceremony was taking place. Amazing. Another recommendation from Liam and Margaret.
After finishing the meal, we all gathered in the "snug" ...our own little pub, where we had music from Paddy O'Neil to sing along with. What a day! We were greeted at the end of the evening with an amazing giant moon that lit the castle.
We had a raucous time with all the family and friends together in the coach house for breakfast where we met each day to set our plans. I think we went through hundreds of gallons of coffee.
We met each night in the snug after wonderful days of touring to talk about all we had seen.
What a magical site and the site of great memories. Liam, Margaret Aron and Leah made it even more special by their personal involvement and super extra touches throughout the week.
Thank you Margaret for putting all the candles on the steps the day we arrived and on the day of the ceremony. What a special touch. Thank you Liam for attending to all our needs as quick as you could get there. Thank you Aron and Leah for the music from heaven during the ceremony and the joyful music both in the castle and that evening in the snug. Wonderful!!!
Even in March, with the famous sideways rain, the castle and coach house was warm and comfortable.
Ballyhannon is perfectly located for trips to any of the great sites in south western Ireland. and coming into Shannon is a dream compared to Dublin.

We can't say enough about our stay in the castle. The owners were so accommodating and hospitable and speak very good English. We had our wedding in the castle and they were very helpful in providing local contacts and planners. We came at Christmas during a time of extreme rain and while the stairs were damp and cold, the rest of the castle was warm and cozy. The bedrooms are large and comfortable and everyone had plenty of room. Everything we needed for our stay was provided and the kitchen and bathrooms are all up to date and very functional. The location is so close to everything despite being off the beaten path and very private. We certainly recommend a stay here and we can't wait to plan a trip in a few years to bring all of our family and friends with us!

Room Tip: All the rooms are unique and wonderful

A small family group of 11 stayed over the New Year 2016/17. We had a wonderful time. The castle was perfect - a truly amazing experience. There was a mix of ages from 6 years through to 60 years - and everyone had a great time that we will never forget. Even though the castle is so old, it was surprisingly warm with excellent heating throughout. There is wifi in the main hall and this was accessible in many other rooms in the castle. We booked the Coach House too so we could have the whole place to ourselves and this was also a beautiful building. The kitchens are fully equipped and the owners have put a lot of thought into making visitors as comfortable as possible - we will definitely return again.

Room Tip: This is a medieval castle and all the rooms were excellent

We cannot say enough about our time and wedding at Ballyhannon Castle. It is simply the most magical place on earth! We were honored to have our wedding ceremony at Ballyhannon Castle this September with 35 of our closest family and friends. We rented the castle and coach house for two days for family and friends. This was site unseen for us as we live outside the Boston area. I communicated with the owner Margaret via email until meeting her in person on the day of our check-in/wedding. She was very warm and eager to show us her spectacular property. She had lite dozens of candles and tea-lights around the castle to make it ever so inviting to us and our guests. I was speechless. It was more than we could have imagined!

Our ceremony took place in The Great Room of the castle and our dinner and dancing took place in the Coach House living/dining room. We could not have asked for a more special place. Our wedding felt so authentic yet personal in this setting. It was fun to see our guests enjoy exploring the property and appreciate its history and quaintness. The Snug was a huge bonus! Prior to arriving, we didn't fully realize the size of the snug. Guests of all ages had a blast in the snug pulling pints of Guinness.

Room Tip: wifi was spotty but it didn't matter

In planning a trip for 19 high school students from the States to Ireland and England, where are we going to stay was top on my list. I cannot begin to tell you what a perfect location Ballyhannon Castle is! We spent our time in Ireland mainly on day trips to Galway, Doolin, Cobh, Blarney and more. We were almost always within about an hour of these destinations. After a long day of visiting some of Ireland's beautiful sites, it was so amazing coming back to Ballyhannon. There is plenty of space to hang out, which is especially needed with 19 students traveling together. We stayed in both the Castle and Coach House. Each provided a different living opportunity and the kids loved them both equally. Margaret and Liam were so welcoming. From the first correspondence to our last, they wanted to make our stay the best it could be. We had a few questions when we were there and they quickly answered all of them. Being the leader of the trip, I am always looking to make sure everything runs smoothly. My only thought to make one's stay a little easier would be to have a place for trash. We were incredibly fortunate to have the awesome Brian Mortell cater for us while we were there. He was able to remove any trash that we had, which was great. Had we not had a caterer, I'm not sure what our options would have been, and we did not have our own vehicle so removing it would have been difficult. This is just a very minor thought as to how things might be made easier for future guests. With that said, this was the experience of a lifetime. I am currently planning a return trip for the upcoming summer with another group so that they can experience this fantastic and wonderful place for themselves!
