Spent two nights in hotel on 16th & 17th March. Wish we could have stayed longer. Hotel is clean and rooms very spacious. The restaurant food was excellent and service friendly. Overall this hotel is welcoming, friendly and great value.

My husband and I took advantage of the 2 night Groupon deal for this hotel as we wanted to have a relaxing break without our 3 year old and before the arrival of our second child (due the end of July) On arrival we were slightly concerned about the hotel's proximity to the main road and after checking in we unfortunately discovered our room was at the back of the hotel with our only view being of the busy main road. My husband asked if we could be moved to a room at the front but unfortunately was told the hotel was fully booked. After a tasty meal in the bar (the restaurant wasn't open) we decided to have an early night. Unfortunately that was not to be the case. Our room (224) had an interconnecting door to the room next door and we could hear every noise from that room from the kettle boiling to every word the 3 ladies staying next door were saying. They were speaking in normal tones, it's not that they were shouting so it was pointless for us to contact reception but needless to say coupled with the noise from the busy main road it was not the good night's sleep we had been hoping for. We also heard the older gentleman in the room at the other side of us whistling and singing at 5:45 and the cleaners hoovering outside our door at 8:30 so a lie in was out of the question.
After an ok breakfast we decided not to stay our second night especially as we knew the nightclub would be open but to go home to ensure a decent nights sleep. The lady at reception gave us a bottle of wine and a £20 gift voucher as compensation but I doubt very much we will be returning to use it.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 224

We stayed in the Lakeside for a girlie night out and would definitely return! Meabh and her team made us so welcome. We ate in the bar and 3 out of 4 of us had steak on the stone and it was amazing! Best i've tasted! My friend had fish and really enjoyed it. We stayed in the bar for a few drinks and enjoyed the traditional music then headed of to V nightclub - we had a fantastic night! It was my birthday and one I will never forget! :)

Room Tip: Order steak on a stone - you won't regret it!

Spent last week-end in this hotel. Had a lovely room with magnificent views over the lake. After a warm welcome at reception our room was spacious comfortable and decor and furnishings were of a high standard. The temperature of the room was easily controlled by the air conditioning unit and it was spotlessly clean. During our stay the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We ate in the hotel on our first night ( food was served in the bar as the dining room was not open)- the food was just OK - and as we were dining in the bar we had to listen to a football match that was playing on the TV- not ideal. I had the roast - it wasn't hot and had to be sent back to be re-heated. When we got our bill- it was incorrect with items on it that we had not ordered. However the waitress who initially took our order sorted this out quickly and to our satisfaction. We would probably have eaten in the hotel on the second night if things had been better. However these minor issues did not detract from our stay.
Must see- The Monastic ruins at Fore ,the Abbey and the old church are County Cavans best kept secret. Explore the ruins and find out about the 7 wonders -theres a coffee shop there too.
Virginia is a nice little town- call for a drink at James Mathews pub and Funeral Directors (yes really) . You will find great fresh cooked to order food at reasonable prices in the Riverfront Steakhouse. Call at Farralleys pub in Oldcastle and you will get a warm welcome and good Guiness.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor lake-view room. The rooms at the other side have some road noise.

We took our 4 year old daughter away for a one night treat. On arrival we were made feel welcome right away. Our room was very clean and a good spacious room for the 3 of us.
We went to the bar to find busy bar staff who still had time to chat, the friendly atmosphere and well priced drinks definately was a good start to the evening.
Later that evening we ate in the restaurant. The choice and price was well matched. Me and my partner availed of the speciality "steak on the stone" It was well presented, very tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed but busy surroundings. The staff were excellent and especially Sally who chatted to us and our daughter.
The views and the lake where the icing on cake. Meabh could not have done anymore for us and that is why we are returning for the Paddys weekend!

Room Tip: ask for a lakeside view
