The exhibits change and we found outhouse arial views of Sioux Falls past and beer brewery days to name a few. The courthouse upstairs is great for free Friday concerts when scheduled in the winter. I really don't know why we don't enjoy this free fun more--maybe it is the parking situation seems "off putting". One year a staff member walked down Phillips pointing out history of the old building and gave us a nice brochure.

I attended a business event with drinks and dinner here and was very impressed. The building is beautiful and has been carefully restored to its original glory. Kudos for that! The buffet dinner had a nice food selection and everything was very tasty. The cash bar had a nice wine and beer selection that included one local brew and the drink prices were very reasonable.

There are several small rooms, each devoted to different information. One is about the world war, another about schools, another about native American tribes, another about gasoline issues, etc. Each room has just enough information so that it is not overwhelming. Some of the huge rooms are empty, so you can just enjoy the painting on the walls and the architecture.

Each room also had kid-friendly activities--feeling the different parts of a buffalo/bison, building a miniature teepee, answering questions at a desk in an old schoolroom, fixing an old-fashioned car. etc.

I think this is a great spot for the whole family. There is free parking, if you're there at a good time.

The building itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, through the years renovations were made but when a new courthouse was built this building was restored. The court gallery has been restored with its original seats but not the courtroom itself. Some of the original furniture is current being used in the new courthouse or the staff in this building. The surfaces have been restored and currently some of the murals are being worked on. It's definitely worth a visit.

We went to this old courthouse to enjoy the exhibits. But, wow, the exterior of the building and quartz stone that it and several other buildings in Sioux Falls were constructed, is beyond description. Just so beautiful, and such wonderful craftsmanship that you just don't see anymore. We loved it. The WWI exhibit is so well done. There are even a few "hands-on" things that the kids can do rather than just looking at the exhibits. There is a wonderful room upstairs of old gas station memorabilia. The courtroom itself is so nice, but it would be more meaningful if the witness stands and Judge's bench etc. were all in place as they would have been when trials were held there long ago. Still, so nice and well done. Be sure to go into the bathrooms on the second floor since they also have a period authenticity.
