We went to this old courthouse to enjoy the exhibits. But, wow, the exterior of the building and quartz stone that it and several other buildings in Sioux Falls were constructed, is beyond description. Just so beautiful, and such wonderful craftsmanship that you just don't see anymore. We loved it. The WWI exhibit is so well done. There are even a few "hands-on" things that the kids can do rather than just looking at the exhibits. There is a wonderful room upstairs of old gas station memorabilia. The courtroom itself is so nice, but it would be more meaningful if the witness stands and Judge's bench etc. were all in place as they would have been when trials were held there long ago. Still, so nice and well done. Be sure to go into the bathrooms on the second floor since they also have a period authenticity.

Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Nice exhibits. WW1, Native Americans, and an old courthouse. Donations suggested for admission. Worth the hour or so it would take to see.

When I saw a courthouse museum I was intrigued and even more excited that it was free!!! It was interesting to discover that the exhibits had nothing to do with courthouse operations, etc!! There were exhibits about Native Americans, World War II, gas stations, and they are working on a school one. I loved how they had some hands on things for kids (or curious adults) as well! I was sad that you could not go to the top story or really see the clock tower but wow to the exhibits and even more to the renovated ballroom!!!
Definitely make a stop here and check out some history!!

Old courthouse museum incorporates some interesting objects related to the earlier days and some exhibits related to Sioux people. Interesting are the art work from the book on Sioux people in terms of how the Indians hunt buffalo is interesting. An old gas station and its equipment can also be seen.

It's a beautiful building with a nice collection of historical things, but I was hoping for a little more about the court itself. One of the flyers said it has a "restored courtroom," but it was just a big empty room where they can host events. There was a round docket, but that seems to be all that's left of the old court room.
