Peter and Liz have a truly beautiful corner of the earth. They made us feel welcome but were unobtrusive. Swallow cottage is part of a barn conversion next the owner’s house converted from the original mill. The cottage was cosy and well equipped. The grounds are stunning consisting of a stream, weir, weeping willows, sculptures, flowers and wildlife. During your stay keep your eyes peeled for deer, kingfisher, hares, rabbits, pheasant, doves and squirrels to name a few. If you are lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of a blind otter, just be careful on the drive in! The cottage is ideally placed within walking distance to a friendly pub, that served amazing meals, and Itteringham village with its famous old shop. Cromer, Sheringham and Norwich were only a short drive away. Perfect if you want to get away from it all as there is no mobile phone reception at the cottage and the village. We truly hope to have the opportunity to stay again!
It is a beautiful quiet place with little more than the water flowing through the mill and the sound of birds to hear. It is well placed for visits to the Broads, Blickling Hall, Mannington Gardens and lots of heritage railways. The cottage was well equipped, clean, comfortable and interestingly laid out. I was allowed to do some fly fishing from the garden which was very enjoyable but totally unsuccessful . Peter very kindly sent on a battery charger we left behind on our departure. We would very happily go there again.
I've just returned from a fantastic week here exploring north Norfolk with my two children. This cottage is set in the beautiful grounds of a lovely old watermill, where you can completely get away from everyday life.
The cottage was spotless and is very well equipped with a washing machine and dishwasher, and has two lovely bedrooms which are both en suite, and a private garden for this cottage with an outside table and chairs. The owners have thought of everything - there was a great welcome pack full of information on the local area and places to visit, and a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival with some tea and coffee, and a delicious Norfolk fruit cake! There were even night lights in both rooms and some books and a board game.
There is wifi but we had no phone signal, which we were made aware of before our stay, and this actually enhanced our 'get away from it all' break!
The garden and river were beautiful, and we spotted so much wildlife including an owl on our first night, as well as a swan, a heron and several crayfish in the river.
The owners are very helpful but not intrusive. I only saw/spoke to Lis, but she was great from the moment of booking and sending emails with advice for our stay. She recommended some great places to take my sons, and this was the perfect base for exploring north Norfolk. I would recommend a trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point and Sandringham which were our favourites.
The Walpole Arms pub is at the end of the driveway which serves fantastic food. We only visited it a couple of times, but definitely worth it.
We will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful week!
The location of and the accommodation in the cottage were what we wanted i.e. a 2-bedroom cottage in a rural position near Aylsham and the coast. We liked the fact that all the rooms were a really good size - all too often in holiday cottages the rooms are small and pokey. Each bedroom had its own bathroom. The cottage was clean and tidy and well equipped, although we could have done with a few more plates and bowls. The cottage is close to a lovely old watermill which has a beautiful garden, so our surroundings were a joy to wake up to. The owner was friendly.
Attending a family gathering in Weybourne we chose Swallow Cottage just 10 miles or so inland as somewhere we could relax away from the hussle and bussle of the coastal resort . We were not disappointed.
The cottage, which sits in the lovely extensive 4+acres grounds of the Mill, was spacious, spotless, comfortably furnished with a well laid out kitchen/dining area and in fact provided us with everything we needed. Having travelled for 2 days to get to Norfolk it became a home from home for the next 4 days.
A word must be said about the owners Liz and Peter who live in the Mill. A lovely couple who we instantly warmed to and who welcomed us to their idyllic environment. We spent most of our time at the cottage/gardens and in the surrounding area eating out at the local pub where the food and ambiance was excellent.
All in all a secret jewel in Norfolk and have already recommended to family and friends
