The room we were given was dark and small. The air conditioner kept the room cool, but was extremely noisy. There was a coffee maker in the room, but no cups (or glasses) in the room and no coffee. The nearby pool required a key to access which we were not given. There is no beach access. The only place we could find that served food is not open each morning for breakfast. The location is not within walking distance of any restaurants. The room appeared clean, but housekeeping did not come during our 2 night stay.

At the security gate, we told the gentleman there we were coming to stay at the hotel, and he passed us through. He must have been unaware that check-in for the rooms there were handled at another office five miles down the highway. We found out when we found the sign at the registration desk letting us know that. THe sign also said that they "apologize for any inconvenience." That would be the only apology we were to receive during our stay and additional apologies would have been appropriate. We drove to the registration desk, and were informed that the registration for rooms at Pawley's Plantation had been handled there for several years, that the security guard must have been new and they had no idea why my confirmation from Hotwire still showed the old address. I had the feeling she felt that not knowing this was our fault somehow. She certainly did not express any apology the misunderstanding. I then drove the five miles back to the room. We were now late to meet other folks so only dropped off our luggage in the room before leaving. Late that night, we returned to our room and were surprised and disappointed to see that one of the pillows was missing a pillowcase and there were no glasses in the bathroom. We did find a large dead insect in the bathroom however. In the morning we discovered that while we had a coffeemaker, we had neither coffee nor coffee cups. I called housekeeping and informed them of the missing bathroom glasses, the pillowcase and the coffee items. Still no apology was offered. Upon our return to the room later that afternoon, we found that beds were not made, towels not replaced nor was there any indication that housekeeping had been in the room except that there was a tied up garbage bag on one of the beds with coffee, cups and pillowcases inside. Classy.

It's funny...I played here the first time 25-30 years ago and HATED the course. Played it a few years ago and had a chance of heart...big time. Played here three or four times lately. This last trip, one particular staff member and the starter allowed me to tee off in front of a large group as I was a single and finished my front nine way early.
Jack did a nice design here. Long and short par threes. Long and short par fours. Nice greens. The par threes by the marshland are very memorable. Teeing ground AND cart path is built on an extremely narrow strip on land through the marsh.

I heard mixed reviews about the course and lodging, but let me say they both were phenomenal. The staff at Pawleys make you feel so welcome and we're just beyond words accommodating. The room was great, we stayed on a small condo right off the tenth tee box. The course was pristine and provided a better than average challenge. The views on the back were outstanding. Make sure you have some no see em spray just in case. I would highly recommend this course and lodging and have a feeling I'll be back in the fall...

This place is in very good shape and is very challenging. Five tees to choose from for different levels of play. If your a serious golfer, buy the golf guide at the pro shop for help as some holes are laid out uniquely. The greens were fast and curvy. We had lots of fun here and decided to play there again tomorrow. This place is much nicer than Legends.
