If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach this State Park is great really relax on the beach. Great picnic areas from what I could see. The castle is neat to walk through and full of history. Bathrooms are clean and nice to have with young ones. May get a little busy in the summer but still worth a day at the beach.

What a beautiful state park. We made a visit while here in South Carolina and we were not disappointed. I am sure during the summer it is a very busy place as it was pretty busy on this beautiful fall day. We went over the dunes and the beach is beautiful though we did not go out on it (someone didn't want to get all sandy lol) we did do one of the hikes there at the park which took you by a salt water pond. It was an enjoyable easy hike.

This is a fascinating sister site to Brookgreen Gardens - the land for both was owned by the same family.
The house at HBSP is worth the tour, there is a nominal fee and you can upgrade to an audio tour for another couple of bucks.
I highly recommend that you take the time to go out to the beach and enjoy this great unspoiled spot. If the weather is conducive, take your swimsuit and a chair and just relax.
There is a fee to get into the park, I think it was $5 per person if you don't have a pass or membership.

Want to slow it down, visit Hunting Beach State Park.

Plenty of parking, great beach, picnic area, hiking/biking trails, and Historic Home that only charges a couple of bucks for a guided tour.

We spent about 2 hours, but you could easily spend the day.

There is a charge to get in...the beaches are nice, hiking trails as well and endless birds and water fowl. Boardwalk extends over the wetlands for a nice walk and alligator sighting......all in all a nice day.
