We were enticed to visit Brentwood by the early bird special which looked pretty good as well as the promise of $1 crab cakes at the bar. We had a great but quite expensive evening there. The crabcake appetizers in the bar were $1 each and were one mouthful each. They were served in a lovely creamy mustard sauce and were absolutely delicious. I could make a meal of half a dozen of them and a nice glass of wine. The price for the early bird special -$14.95 was very reasonable and included a nice salad, a good choice of main courses and a very uninspired dessert of the day. The two men had the prime rib and added some nice grilled shrimp for an additional $5. I had shrimp on angel hair pasta which was fine but nothing exceptional. The other diner had a very large crabcake of the same quality as the ones in the bar with a rice pilaf- a great choice especially when you consider the price.

We did enjoy quite a few glasses of their very good wines available by the glass which accounts for the bill. The wines at an average of $7.50 a glass add up pretty quickly even with the $1 discount per glass that is part of their early bird special.

The decor of the restaurant is warm and homey and the service was exceptionally good. All in all an excellent experience.

Pricey, but good. Great for a romantic night out.

Brentwood serves delicious, well-prepared meals in a restored Victorian farmhouse. All entrees are served with a hummus appetizer and a salad, making the restaurant a good value for the money. The prices are very moderate for a resort area (about $20/entree, just about the price of the greasy, mediocre seafood buffets down the road in Calabash, NC).

My favorite entree is Chicken Brentwood, a boneless breast seared French-style and stuffed with mushrooms, spinach, and cheese. The delectable Mornay sauce crowning the chicken could be the best part! The hummus is so good that I often order a portion to take home, and I seldom dine at Brentwood without buying a bottle of the homemade miso salad dressing.

The restaurant is named for the New York hometown of the owners. Despite the Victorian exterior, the interior is modern and tastefully decorated with bright colors and nice artwork on the walls. The upstairs lounge is traditional Victorian, and a nice place for cocktails and dessert; be sure to admire the fabulous antique crystal chandelier over the staircase!

Brentwood is family-owned and operated, and the "self-interest" of the management really shows. The waitstaff ranges from very good to outstanding; I've never been dissatisfied with my server.

Brentwood sits just off the main road through Little River, but there is a large sign directing you to the restaurant (and, the restaurant is spectacularly illuminated at night). I recommend reservations as seating is limited, and I would ask for one of the smaller rooms (the largest dining room at the back has poor acoustics and can become very loud).
