We came here for the first time in 1996, after the grand opening and have loved this resort ever since. The grounds are beautiful, natural, and well-kept, and the accommodations are spacious and have everything you need for a relaxing vacation.
The emphasis here is on the environment, so activities revolve around the outdoors--bike riding, kayaking, crabbing, guided nature walks, fishing, etc. There are also a number of family-oriented activities to choose from, such as nature crafts, trips to local museums, storytelling, trivia games and a nightly campfire.
There are also two great pools, a water slide, a hot tub and a spacious beach house (exclusively for Disney guests) at Palmetto Dunes. Food options include a couple of counter service places and a bar (seasonal) at the beach house, but there are so many restaurants within a short distance (many who deliver) you really can't go wrong.
Disney has done a great job renovating the accommodations over the years. Keeping with the environmental theme, the color palette is soothing and welcoming, and the amenities (large flat screen tv, blue ray player, jacuzzi, updated kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances, high end linens on the beds) are top-notch.
And of course, the service. All of the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and welcoming literally all of the time.
Disney's Hilton Head Island is the perfect wind-down place for couples and families. It's low key and natural--perfect for relaxation and fun. More
