Description: DiPrato's Delicatessen opened May 2004, and, today, the DiPrato's Experience affords patrons a rewarding escape from ordinary fare. The reward? Delectable food, beautiful décor, and a beguiling balance: friendly service and a pleasant, neighborly feeling. DiPrato's, located where the Purple Cow grocer operated, graces a quiet neighborhood barely off the beaten path. Driving up, you notice the rich red brick, set off by greenery, and spacious windows where light pours in. Approaching the wooden, double-door entrance, a thought comes to mind. You're about to enjoy the DiPrato's Experience. You could say a Southern breeze laden with Italian accents drifts through this New York style delicatessen. Dine if you like on the patio where the glassy splash of falling water melts away concerns. Pita chips and pimento cheese are a real treat! Blend Dianne Light and Bill Prato's presence and culinary skills and you get a wonderfully popular delicatessen-DiPrato's.

We ordered from the awesome deli case (artichokes stuffed with cheese, tomato stack, and pimento cheese with pita chips) and other items from the menu. The mimosas (pineapple and pomegranate) were tasty and refreshing. The Eggs Charleston (English muffins, crab cakes, 2 poached eggs, topped with hollandaise sauce $10.99) was very good, The Banana Pecan Pancakes with warm maple syrup (short stack) - $5.99 were very good and I could not eat but 1/2, because they were so large, the Chocolate Chip Pancakes topped with candied pecans and warm maple syrup were delicious, as well - $10.99, and Monte Cristo French Toast Sandwich (Ham, Turkey and Swiss cheese between French toast slices. was outstanding (served with a side of orange apricot marmalade and fresh fruit -$10.99). Everything was tasty and somewhat unique. We sat in the area that has vines on the windows, which I would recommend. It was a bit noisy, as the Sunday Brunch is quite popular., and we didn't mind When we left at 12:30, there were 10 - 12 people waiting under trees for seats. The staff had set up chairs in the shade for them. It gets very full on Sundays, so I recommend going early. It is worth the wait. I do wish the restaurant had a few more larger tables. We had 5 in our party and did not have enough room for all of our dishes without feeling crowded. The only negative was our waitress did not come back to fill our drinks, and we had to ask for additional plates 3 times and for her and others to fill our drinks. It was very busy, though. This was not my first visit to Dipratos, because i really enjoy the food. i will definitely come back.

Known for their pimento cheese and brunch, this quaint renovated old grocery store on the Pickens St. Hill side of the USC campus is also home to the best liverwurst sandwich in Columbia. Served with mustard on rye with a generous slice of red onion and a Dr. Brown's cream soda, it's as close to a NYC deli experience as you'll find in these parts!

Great place for small meals like weekend brunch, sandwiches and salads. The pimento cheeses are the best in town. Great daytime neighborhood eatery.

We had to make a stop in Columbia on a Sunday and found this spot for brunch as a result of googling. Spying the waiting line for a table, we assumed we'd made a good choice. The wait was not long. I had traditional eggs Benedict while my husband had the Charleston version (with crab cake instead of Canadian bacon). Both were good. The sides of potato & cheese casserole and fresh fruit were satisfactory, if a little skimpy. While this place didn't wow us, we weren't disappointed either. We would consider returning.

Decided to drop by to get lunch for my weekend staff at the Heart Hospital. Made the mistake of looking at the display of food they have. Ended up purchasing three different kinds of pimento cheese, tomato pie and southern style wings along with pita chips that are freshly made and additive. Service is great. People are friendly. Must try if you have never been. All of the food is great. Weekend brunch is great!
