The Chestnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast

We stayed at the B&B while in town for a show at Township Auditorium. The Auditorium is a 5 minute walk from the inn. Gale and Sherwood Garrett, the owners and innkeepers, made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until our post-breakfast departure. They went above and beyond the call of duty during our 1 night stay in the Jefferson Davis suite. They are both well versed in history of the town and inn. The location is great. If a walker, you can also reach the area around Liberty St. The room was large, with a king bed. The bath was huge (shower or bath). Breakfast was five star. We enjoyed conversation with the owners and the other guests. We love historic districts and old homes, so this was a really wonderful time.

I want to send a personal thank you to the owners of this wonderful establishment. I was treated with the luxury of a whirlpool bath, large historic room, hearty breakfast, and great conversation. Though my stay only lasted one night, I will return to explore the surrounding area! It felt like I was at home.

What a fabulous B&B!!! We spent two nights here a couple of weeks ago and had such a wonderful time. The suite was tastefully decorated and VERY comfortable. Upon arrival, we were greeted with beverages, chocolate, granola bars and a 1800's newspaper! The room was very spacious and was equipped with everything we needed, lots of cozy blankets, various bathroom products, a hair dryer, and robes. But the best part about this place is BREAKFAST. Ohhhhh breakfast! Even though my husband and I are vegan, Sherwood (the lady of the house) threw down the most wonderful B&B culinary experience we have EVER had. This woman was born to cook. Both her and her husband went above and beyond taking our stay from business to pleasure. I would HIGHLY recommend this B&B

I stayed here for a weekend to attend a college football game. The house is beautiful! My room was enormous with a jetted tub and comfortable bed. So much fun history to explore here, too. The daily breakfast was incredible and unlike many B&Bs, there was no formality in that you could have breakfast whenever you wanted. The owners are so sweet and helpful, too.

Room Tip: I was in the President Jefferson Davis room - wonderful!

This 1820's cottage, the home of General and Mary Chestnut during the Civil War, is charming. The five bedrooms are themed and tastefully decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom appeared to have had some updating but was really in need of more renovation. There is a pleasant garden at the back of the cottage with garden furniture and garden swing. There is also ample parking behind the cottage. The owners are very friendly, recount tales of the Chestnuts and are happy to give you a tour of the cottage. Breakfast, orange juice and Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, followed by eggs, ham and French toast was delicious; coffee extremely good and apparently limitless. This little cottage is a very interesting place to stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jefferson Davis room which was very nice but the fan and air conditioning unit were...
