It reminded me of Chopped on TV because the chefs never know what they are going to cook that day until they get there and find out what they have available to work with. They "invent" what they are going to fix that day when they arrive and see what is available at nearby markets or has been delivered to them that day. So it is like each night there is a special, but you have to order the special as there are no other choices. For our meal, they came up with pineapple and lentil soup, mozzarella and mango salad, chicken pot pasta, Barbacoa and potatoes, Moroccan pancake and honey. It was a great experience talking with them and seeing them work together just a few feet away. I anticipated each course with eager anticipation and wasn't disappointed. It was delicious and filling. But get your reservations well in advance because they fill up since there is only two seatings a night with limited seating (about 20 or so).

If you're anywhere near Charleston, and care about creative cooking and delicious food, you must have dinner at r kitchen. The caveat is that the menu is fixed, the venue is small, less than elegant and not easy to find. Go anyway. This is a combination of restaurant and kitchen. If you sit at the counter, you'll get a running commentary on the inspiration and preparation of each dish. We had a truly memorable dining experience. Don't miss it.

The reviews I read, intrigued me, so booked two months in advance, ( at the B&B we were staying at they asked how did you get a reservation, they had tried a few times with no such luck).
Yes I like this concept, but you have no choices you are at their whims for that nights meal. We had a good time, and the price was right, but if I was to go back to Charleston I would pick another restaurant, been there done that.....

It has it all and then some. Quality, ambience, service, and great food. The five course meal was predetermined but you can make substitions. The seating is very limited and there are specific seating times for the group. The best seats are at the counter where all the action is... the kitchen, the food prep, and interaction with the chefs. You want second helping... you got it. Even though they serve beer and wine, you can bring your own for a small service fee. A wonderful dining experience! A must do when in Charleston.

We have been coming to Charleston area to vacation for years. We enjoy the beach, golf and wonderful restaurants in the area. We visited R Kitchen with my family and throughly enjoyed a wonderful 5 course meal. The food was very interesting and wonderful. We definitely will return and make sure to visit our new favorite "kitchen" in Charleston.
