We've visited Morris Island a few times and it's always so peaceful and quiet there. Not many visitors as you need a boat to get over and visit. If you want some beautiful shells this is the beach to go to...you will not be disappointed. Wear shoes that can withstand water and a rough/shelly beach though. Check the tide pools for sand dollars and starfish when you go...just make sure to not disturb them if they are still alive. Pack a picnic lunch and some sunblock and enjoy the day there. And a camera to take in all the beautiful scenery and views.

You can see it from the north tip of Folly Beach or you can boat up to Morris island and get pretty close to it. I hope it gets restored one day.

Today, there is really not much to Morris Island. In fact, there is not much island at all - only a lighthouse which is barely even that - the iconic light itself is regularly in the process of being strengthened so that it does not fall into the sea.

But some 150 years ago, the island at one end of Folly was the site of a relatively famous encounter during the civil war. It is in fact documented (well, popularized) in the film Glory, where the 54th is seen in their attack on Morris Island.

These days, all that is left is the crumbling lighthouse. Though the light no longer functions, it is definitely worth the short walk from the end of Folly Beach to see the towering structure, especially at low tide when you can see the base. Few lighthouses are anything like it. There is usually not much of a crowd, other than a few gulls, and because of the location it just does not get much traffic once you get through town. Well worth the trip!

A little out of the way but worth it. You can't get to without a boat but a must see if you are trying to see all lighthouses on the coast.
