Owner description: Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America's oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Mill Pond in the spring.

We did the garden tour only. The azaleas were in bloom and it was beautiful. The most beautiful spot imo was just past the rectangular pond on the left side of the property. This wasn't a number on the map they give you so I'm glad we walked over to this area. Unfortunately, it rained us out of seeing everything so we have rainchecks and hope to go back another time. It's a little expensive but beautiful. I do think it looks very different from the aerial view shown in the photo. The fixed elements are a little older and less polished looking to me. All the paths are unpaved. They are easy to walk but there were a few muddy spots.

The landscaping is beautiful. More importantly, the tours are very interesting. Great history. The house has great artifacts dating all the way back to the revolutionary war. If you are a history buff, expect 4 hours at the plantation.

If you’re looking for a typical plantation home tour, this isn’t the stop for you. Although there are remnants and buildings that provide a glimpse of the old home, the prize here comprises the beautiful gardens and pathways. Lovely views, glorious flowers (though we were at the start of azalea blooming), and a few alligators shore-line! We enjoyed a beautiful day.

What a beautiful plantation. The gardens are spectacular. I would definitely recommend the house tour as the tour guide shared a wealth of information regarding the history of the plantation. So many fascinating stories were shared!
