If you're a Herreshoff fan, or fond of the America's cup this is a must visit. Some very nice older vessels on display. Knowledgeable staff, and it's a working museum so some are under restoration. If this type of museum is your thing, don't miss it.

Stopped here to please my husband and found that I thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Being able to board a couple of the exhibits made all the difference. I would go back.

Builders of sail- and other types of boats, the Herreshoff family were innovators. The history of their shipbuilding and ability to see many boats was a delight!

If you are a yachting/wooden boat/maritime lover, then you MUST add this to your trip. We hired a private driver from Boston and he rang ahead to book a private tour. No charge. No tip necessary. My husband was in boat heaven and has continued to talk about to all of our friends back home in Australia.

As a yachting destination, Newport is hard to beat. The beautiful harbour and charming town life lived up to its reputation, and my husband was in heaven. ⛵️ Then, we went to the Herreshoff Marine Museum and the America's Cup Hall of Fame.
The Museum, bordering beautiful Narragansett Bay, in Bristol, Rhode Island, is one of the nation's most important historic maritime treasures and Tony's 'happy' place. The Herreshoff Marine Museum is a must see in Newport. Incredible family of industrial and yacht designers, from the first catamaran, steam engines, naval vessels, dinghies and masts. They did everything in house! To arrange a guided tour we contacted the Museum at info@herreshoff.org. Tours may be available during the off-season based on staff availability, and the entry is $12 for an adult. If you love wooden boats and yachts, don't miss this.
