It is touted as a "trifecta": "passion / purity / perfection". Hourglass Brasserie in Bristol, RI comes up big in all three quality categories. The instant you step in, you feel the ambiance is going to be perfect. The music conveys a sense of relaxation -- neither too loud, nor too soft... just right.

The framed posters cry out the nature of French influence on culinary delights. The seating favors couples who want a more intimate setting, or groups of four or more who arrive to celebrate together a special event or simply good friendship. Throughout the entire restaurant, the intimate setting yields to conversation that does not have to compete with unwanted noise. The service impresses by its unobtrusive attention and efficiency.

But that's not the "half of it"! The FOOD! ... WOW! My companion and I had already enjoyed a delicious meal at the Hourglass Brasserie several months ago. This time, we opted to speak directly to Chef Rizwan Ahmed to see what he might offer us if we "put ourselves completely in his hands". After hearing what he proposed, we nodded agreement to sample several servings that Chef Riz would present.

We have all heard that temperature, texture, time and taste are all imperative in a perfect culinary presentation. What Chef Riz offered was a marvelous medley of succulent sensations that led us to "want one more bit of the food in front of us, when we had already tasted the very last one". And then, the next platter arrives... as savory and as inviting as the preceding one.

Chef Riz amazed us with his creative and artistic skills in presenting exquisite platters. From the quail stuffed with figs and with spinach and uniquely cooked red radishes, to the borscht that rendered such a savory experience as it was swallowed; from the squid stuffed with cherees adorned with foamy garlic, to the tasty duck surrounded by moussiline pomme and snow peas; from the surprising delicacy of skate to the poached pear and panicotta yogurt imbued with wine sauce and fresh mint... the entire meal was a very memorable delight to the eyes and an exquisite experience of taste.

If you would like to treat your palate to a cornucopia of culinary flavor, we encourage you to visit Hourglass Brasserie, in Bristol, RI. Your taste buds will forever be grateful!

This restaurant is heavy on the sauces and the meat is dried and tough.

Best food. Best service. Best atmosphere! Not just in Bristol but in all of Rhode Island. Enough said.

I saw the previous review that said they had to wait a long time despite having a reservation. I was there that night, and I know that they had the busiest night ever at Hourglass. They were not happy with making people wait, either, for what it's worth, and I know they're working on not having that happen again.
That said, our dinner, once again, was nothing short of fantastic. The dishes are gorgeous and they taste even better than they look.

Went for restaurant week. Despite a reservation, we waited for an hour and a quarter and weren't even approached by the hostess for over 30 minutes. We sat at the bar for the last 10 minutes and weren't even given our table when it was finally ready. The meal, when we finally were able to enjoy it, was well prepared, well presented and imaginative. The owner -chef apologized at the conclusion of the meal. Very noisy room also. We saw a 5star trip advisor rating on the door - I hope it returns to that level but it has a long way to go!
