Historic building in the heart of Quakertown. Good atmosphere and the food always delivers. Nice bar area too.

We stopped by the Red Lion on a whim just passing by around dinner time. It's a quaint tavern-style restaurant. Service was average to above average. Prices were in line with what we would have expected for the area. The had a bread and hummus dish that was given as an appetizer that was quite good and complementary. My wife and I both had steaks and they were tasty and appropriately cooked. My only complaint is that the table we were given was tiny and there were multiple other tables open there - both when we arrived and by the time we left. I figured perhaps there were reservations in place for them but kind of hard to believe that many people had failed to show up and we arrived at about 4:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. Not sure why they wanted to stick us at the tiniest table in the room!

My daughter and I took a chance from a tip from a friend. We were pleasantly surprised on what a warm and comfortable feeling you felt when you entered the dining area. The service was a little slow before, during and after the meal. Food and pricing were very good and the quality of the food was also. We both had the open faced turkey sandwich and the combination of the apples, onions, cheese and horseradish was interesting when we ordered it and delicious when we consumed it. We will definitely go back when in the area.

This Inn opened in 1750. The Inn was owned by Walter McCoole Lots of history and ghosts. Even Eric Knight of the original Lassie Come Home series, came with Lassie to the Inn. It wasn't clear when the name changed to add the Red Lion Inn The building is beautiful. Our service was speratic only because they were very busy but our server delightful! He even took a minute to take our photo and he had a smile in spite of being uber busy! Our burgers were done to perfection. Onion Rings and French Fries were plentiful and yummy. All served hot. My Lobster Bisque soup was a tad spicy for me but still had a good flavor. We were even accommodated when we asked for the piped music to be turned down. Outside on the porch would have been great but surely not at rush hour! Go and enjoy!

Steep yourself in local lore and history and enjoy lunch or dinner on the porch. House specialties vary with the season and a new garden promises to deliver a fresh take on "farm to table"- From seafood to burgers, pasta to dessert, McCoole's is a great choice any night of the week.
