Owner description: Costumed guides conduct tours of the historic mansion of the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan.

The tour guides are in period clothing. They are very knowledgeable and tell the story of our only bachelor president and his family. The short film in the historical society building before the tour is also very good. Well worth your time to visit if you are anywhere close to this area.

Never knew this was out here. Tour guides dressed in period garb offered informative tours of Janes Buchanan’s house, life, and family history. It was interesting and beautifully maintained. Worth a stop if traveling in Lancaster area.

This isn't Monticello. It's surprisingly small (by the standards of a presidential home) about an hour long tour, though certainly worthwhile. They offer guided tours as well as ones "at your own pace" with a different guide in each room. Some of the guides were better than others. You wouldn't want to schedule a visit solely for Wheatland but, if you're in Lancaster, it's a nice way to spend some down time.
