Owner description: In 1906, industrialist Pierre du Pont (1870-1954) purchased a small farm near Kennett Square, PA, to save a collection of historic trees from being sold for lumber. Today, Longwood Gardens is one of the world’s great horticultural displays, encompassing 1,077 acres of dazzling gardens, woodlands, meadows, fountains, 10,010-pipe Aeolian organ and 4.5-acre conservatory. Longwood continues the mission set forth by Mr. du Pont to inspire people through excellence in garden design, horticulture, education and the performing arts, through programming that includes exhibitions, musical performances by leading artists, renowned horticulture education programs, horticulture research, environmental stewardship and community engagement.

We had a wonderful time seeing the Christmas display. We almost forgot it was 12 degrees outside! We loved the tree houses and the fire pits! The lights were amazing!

My wife and I were at the Gardens for the Christmas lights spectacular. Lights came on at 3:30 and were as advertised .. Earlier we toured the fabulous floral displays. We are looking forward to visiting in the spring. Everything was spectacular.

Christmas is the best time to visit Longwood gardens. The lights the Christmas trees and decorations are the greatest. The train garden was beautiful with the recent snow covering the exhibit. Had lunch in the cafeteria which is always great. We visited the last day of the Christmas exhibit which worked out great since the place was not crowded.

Their Christmas display was absolutely fabulous!! Unfortunately, it's over now, but you must plan a trip for next year! However, I have heard from friends, that it is wonderful at ALL times of the year, so I will be going back in the spring. One word of warning... It is ENORMOUS!!! If you plan to see all of the gardens and buildings in one day, wear VERY comfortable shoes!!

Longwood Gardens is such an amazing place. It continues to improve every year. My favorite time of year is Christmas. It can be very crowded and timed tickets are necessary to prevent overcrowding. But is you go at the end of the season on a bitterly cold night you can have the whole place to yourself. The conservatory is stunning this time of year. The display changes every year making it an annual event. The best way to experience Longwood year round is with an annual pass.

Thank mekopp
