This is a lovely room. Quite, elegant and stylish. With a beautiful view over the garden of Milton Park. I was there for a lunch with a friend when we decided to indulge in some fine dining. I ordered Coquille Saint Jacques - a blast from the past! The scallops were tender but the sauce had almost disappeared and dried out while under the grill. The menu reads better than it tasted and looked. I had confit of duck - since when does one pair duch with a boring salad on pea shoots? Come on lift your game so we really can enjoy a fine dining experience. However - a bright spot was our waiter Jason. What a delight! Fast efficient and friendly.

We were staying at Milton Park, so it was an easy choice on our first night to eat in versus head out after a long drive.

So glad we did as it was fantastic, from service to the food and the wine selection .... Everything was MINT!!

Not sure on the price as we billed it to the room and I never checked, but definitely worth saving for and sharing for that special occasion.

Hordens is the fine dining restaurant of The Milton Park hotel which is a little way out of Bowral. The means of orderting is to take a fixed price meal with some sides to be added. The wine list is sound and very reasonably priced; over the years the house red has been an excellent Tyrrell's Hunter Valley shiraz, which is remarkably inexpensive. The course alternatives cover a variety of tastes - I often have the duck, which is locally sourced and invariably delicious. The best way to experience Hordens is to go as a couple, take a room in the hotel (not cheap) and book dinner well ahead, requesting a table for two beside the windows. In daylight saving time the views over the lovely gardens is a delight and you often score a look at passing wildlife. In winter time an after dinner liquere in The Polo Bar, in front of the fire, also is delightful. Staff is efficient, polite and not familiar.

Hordern's is the French style restaurant in the grand Milton Park resort which was once the county home of Anthony Hordern (olde worlde Retail baron). You can dress up for dinner here and not feel silly. The food was generous and with lots of flavour. The culinary highlights were Goats cheese soufflé, the venison and ile flotante dessert. Not inventive, but very enjoyable. The wine by the glass is served equally generously. It was great to feel full!
The real highlight was how well Jason (well known southern highlands waitstaff) and the kitchen team coped with a two hour total blackout! The restaurant space was full and yet despite the trying conditions the staff were patient, helpful and full of personality. So instead of a potential disaster the night was a most enjoyably memorable meal out. We will be back.
