This is a difficult place to describe but I really do recommend going.

The location is unique, we drove up on a wet dark night and the castle felt totally isolated a sense only heightened by the fact the door to the restaurant is locked on arrival.

Once inside everything was lit by candlelight and by the end of our meal we had the place to ourselves.

It feels a bit like something out a film.

It seems like almost an after thought but the food was excellent and the service was also very friendly.

I would love to go back and try eating there in daylight to see the views but there was something really nice about having the illusion we were in the middle of nowhere.

A bit of a hike up muddy paths (it was March) but great view and wild countryside with lots of mining heritage nearby.

The food is outstanding as always, went for a birthday meal and they couldn't have been more accommodating, we were the only people there due to them being cancelled on that evening but they made sure we were very welcome! Definitely would recommend without a doubt!

My husband and I were excited to eat here after seeing the website.
We received a call a few hours before our reservation from Carn Brea Castle checking if the reservation was still ok.
We decided to drive to the castle. It is advised that unless you have a 4x4, drive VERY slowly!! The roads were very narrow and the dirt track was so full of pot holes the suspension took a beating.
Sadly, the weather was foggy, dark and raining so we did not get to see any views or much of the castle itself. Once inside, it was all candle-lit, the stonework was amazing and the atmosphere was romantic.
The waitress was helpful and polite. We both ordered 3 courses each, 2 soft drinks and a 'small bottle of wine' which was in fact a travel sized bottle that filled a glass, this I felt was a little overpriced. The whole bill came to £59.10.
My husbands starter was the garlic butter on Naan, this he felt was standard.
His main was the Shish Tawuk, this was tasty.
For desert, he ordered 3 scoops of ice cream of various flavours.
I had garlic mushrooms to start, these were presented in a clay pot with a slice of plain toast. The sauce was very garlicy which was nice but there was a lot of balsamic vinegar which gave the taste an edge.
I had the Madaba chicken for my main which I struggled to eat. The green beans and potatoes were nice but the flavour of the chicken was not my taste at all.
My desert was vanilla cheesecake with raspberry couli which was delicious.
The restaurant was nice but the music was irritating after a while as it was a CD played on repeat but otherwise an ok venue.
It was clean and tidy and surprisingly warm considering it was a castle.
We will be visiting again but in the summer months when we can see the view etc and will be taking a taxi to save our suspension!

This is somewhere we had wanted to go for a while. From making the booking to saying goodnight we had no complaints. We liked the quirky way the front door was unlocked for us it was all part of making the atmosphere; very Heathcliffy. I had wrapped up warm because it is such an old building in a remote location, but the open fire and candle light made it plenty warm enough. Although it was busy the waitress was attentive and even took time to give us a brief history of the castle. The view from the roof top was stunning, by chance there was also a full moon. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but this was explained to us from the very start, but because of the atmosphere it wasn't a problem we didn't want to feel rushed anyway. We were very impressed with how clean it was, as old granite walls with minimal heating can't be easy, it certainly did not have that musty old building smell. On arrival I did think it looked like cramped seating, but we all said after that none of us (party of four) were actually aware of other diners conversations and that we didn't feel squeezed in either. We had a delicious meal, with a good varied menu, could probably do with a couple more vegetarian options but we will definitely go back. Be sensible when visiting, it's location is part of its appeal and it would be sad to see it changed and made more commercial. Heels and diner dresses are probably not the best attire, and the road is bumpy; after all you are going to be spending an evening in an old castle!
