Very welcoming with an extensive and fair priced menu. Always have a specials board. Always have guest ales. Food was very plentiful, hot and served on hot plates. You must try their chips!. Between us on two different nights we had Beef Stroganoff, Sausage casserole, Gammon steak, Grilled fillet of cod and desserts with clotted cream ice cream, lush.

I have been to The Royal many times and every time we go it is good. We had Sunday lunch for 8 and it was very good .The thing I like about it is it is the only pub I know where the hot food id served on hot plates.. The food is varied and plentiful. I would suggest that nobody leaves hungry
There is a good choice of beers and the Doom Bar ale is superb,

Took a chance on booking a table for our work dinner. The meal was outstanding, the food was locally sourced and was divine. It was a shame that we were the only ones booked in because the band that played were really good and ended the night on a high.

Well worth visiting for lunch or dinner, the chef is brilliant.

Actually the second stay was better - as we were repeat custom & booked direct we got a free drink voucher each. We spent the evening in the bar as it was so pleasant & good for 'people watching'. Portions of food were large, fresh & tasty. My fish jambalaya was spicy with a lovely flavour & plenty of prawns & large chunks of local white fish.

Very busy on a Friday night and we hadn't booked a table so had to wait a while. Said it would be ready in around 40 minutes but we were never called. Then once at our table we were told there'd be a long wait due to a large group so we ate almost two hours after arriving. Some of this was probably caused due to inexperienced waiters and waitresses who were very slow at taking orders etc. Possibly could have eaten in the bar instead but weren't told this. Us and another table had to request desserts as we weren't asked. After all that the food was actually quite good.
