Rock Cottage is absolutely charming, and set in the perfect location overlooking Mawgan Creek - we spent a good part of every morning and evening just admiring the view from the back of the cottage and looking for yet another interesting bird down there on the water, the foreshore or in the trees.
Linda and Robin prepare everything to perfection, with fresh flowers here and there, and everything as clean as you could imagine. Everything in the kitchen is either new or at least seems it, and every detail is covered, even a pastry brush! There is both a cafetiere and a coffee filter machine, and in the sitting room a good quality Sony CD player with an input for your phone etc.
There is an excellent shop in the village with a wide range of local produce, and the local pub (10 to 15 minute walk) has superb food - but you must book in advance, and it's closed Sunday and Monday.
The only possible downside for some will be the fact that there is only one bathroom, and it's downstairs. But it is a nice bathroom!
All in all, if the accommodation suits your family I can't believe you will find a more enjoyable cottage then this. Thank you Linda and Robin!
You will not find a more uniquely beautiful place to stay in all of Cornwall, and beyond. It is a very special place in a very special spot. Not only is the location amazing (and convenient for travelling around other beauty spots in Cornwall, if you can stand to leave the cottage and the river!) but the cottage itself was cozy, clean and comfortable and the hosts extremely lovely and accomodating in every way. We struggled to leave the cottage most days as we watched the tide of the river rise and fall, took the row boat out for a journey, watched the bird life from our window, and went on fabulous strolls around the river. We have already booked again for next year and plan to make Rock Cottage a regular family holiday for us. Highly recommend!
Rock Cottage is a wonderful base for a holiday in Cornwall. The view of the creek at different times during the day will both delight and relax you.
The cottage itself is excellent, furnished to a high standard and has everything you could possibly need for the stay, including "Peggy" a rowing boat moored at your own jetty, so you can go out on the creek, life jackets are provided of course.
We spent many a happy hour on the jetty catching crabs, and there are hundreds to catch, so no one gets disappointed.
Linda, the owner was on hand via phone or email if we needed her and simply let us get on with a wonderful stay, we loved the sweet peas and flowers in the cottage, there were lots of lovely little touches like this.
The location of the cottage is great, just outside of Mawgan village and you can easily reach lots of interesting places within a half hour drive, we managed St Ives, Porthleven, Coverack, Goonhilly Earth Station and nature reserve, plus a bit further and you have Pedn Vounder beach (well worth the difficult cliff descent) and St Michael's Mount.
The Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is less than 10 minutes away, and you get to go back for free too.
There is a Sainsbury's near Helston , just a short drive away plus Mawgan Stores in the village to, if you want local produce.
Give this place a try and you will not be disapointed, we have returned home relaxed and with happy memories of Rock Cottage and Cornwall.
This was our second Christmas at Rock Cottage. First time was 2004, and it was brilliant. This time round it was even better, the owners having made a number of improvements.
Can't beat the location, right beside a tidal river with an everchanging view. Local wildlife is abundant, and a wide variety of birds were seen in the bird table easily viewed from the kitchen table.
Cooked a full Christmas dinner for four adults in the fully equipped kitchen. Every time I needed a utensil or cooking pan, there it was! The owners have literally thought of everything.
Good selection of restaurants and pubs within a short drive, or walk if you're feeling energetic.
Many thanks to owners Linda and Robin.
Linda looked after us superbly and nothing was too much trouble. The house was a home from home! Clean, cosy and welcoming - fresh scones, clotted cream and strawberries and jam were waiting!
We truly wanted for nothing and the kids had a wonderful time rowing the little boat with Dad and playing in the garden while dinner was cooking. The Helford estuary is one of the best parts of Cornwall. Great pub food all around and plenty to do even on a rainy day. Wonderful rock pools and historic sites to explore. Truly a holiday to remember.
