Description: A charming 15th century pub located in the picturesque village of Metherell, in the middle of the stunning Tamar Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty in Cornwall. Just 10 minutes drive from the historic, beautifully preserved, Tudor Cotehele House. . The Carpenters Arms is, in fact, named after the carpenters who built Cotehele House in the 15th Century. This timeless, family friendly and welcoming pub is full of character and atmosphere. Roaring fires lit throughout winter. The public bar is flagged with slate and heavy black beams are held in place by massive exposed stone walls, in contrast to the larger lounge which also functions as a dining area. Three rotating, beautifully kept, real ales. The regular being Sharp's Doombar, and we alternate between microbreweries and larger national breweries like Timothy Taylor, St Austell, Otter to name a few, on the other pumps. We serve delicious food, fresh, prepared to order on our premises by our chef. Monday night is pizza night: traditional stone baked pizzas. We prepare our dough, fresh on the day. Excellent Sunday Roast. Meat is locally sourced. We alternate the roast every Sunday. Great live music gigs with truly talented musicians/bands entertain us all, every month. We cater for all occasions. In fact, our restaurant is available for private hire. We liaise with the local busy community. As a result of this, we hold the ever so popular "Brunch and Local Produce Market" on the 1st Saturday of the month (from March to December), together with Tamar Valley Food Hubs, a local Farmers' Market. We also host seasonal holidays parties for the local Playgroup and School, to raise funds for them. Events which are open to everybody. Free wireless. Outdoor seating is on the sun-trap terrace. Food is served: Mon: 5pm till 9pm (Pizza Night) Tue to Thu: 6pm till 9pm Fri and Sat: Noon till 2pm / 6pm till 9pm Sunday: Noon till 2:30pm / 6pm till 8:30pm

We were so please do have found this lovely friendly pub, which serves great beer and food. Dogs welcome in bar and children also well catered for. We ate there twice and food was great both times and staff very friendly and helpful even when really rushed off their feet!

Quirky, really atmospheric. Not easy to find but worth a visit. Food OK but took a while to come up. Shame. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Just tucking in to my first Pizza at the Carpenters. Down here after a few months and had to try their Pizza night on Monday (Also on a Friday) Out of this world - firm fresh and succulent. Why do people have to go to the big named brands when you can get an authentic Italian pizza here. And I should know having been to first rate Pizza restaurants in Naples.

The Carps is 100 yards away from where we stay. Sib & Rob manage this very well run establishment with amazingly friendly efficient staff. The food is spot on with steak night, fish & chip night & pizza night now with an alternative sour dough!! Huge portions at unbelieveable prices.
Now we move onto the locals.... this is another reason we have visited so often. New man on the block John from Luckett with partner in crime Dougal. Fred & family & Henry lovely. Then there was Anita, John, Trojan & dogs all so friendly & amazing. Everyone speaks to you not like so many pubs where locals snub you.
Its been so good we are looking to move into the village - thank you.

Made a visit to Carpenters Arms after reading reviews and looking at the comments in the in visitors book at holiday home. We did visit on another day but the kitchen was closed but were invited to come again on a Wednesday Night when they had the Fish and Chip Special and a drink all for a tenner. We were also allowed to take our dog but could only eat in the bar. Met by Wendy owner and straight served Fish and Chis was massive our 12 yr old could only just finish it. Wish we had a pub like this to call my local. if ever in area again would go back, There is a menu for other choices but we had what we wanted if ever in area again would go back even for just a drink
