The Flying Chariot is located at the end of Departures on Floor 5 of Terminal 2 LHR. It's a pleasant oasis of calm when the terminal is busy. Menu is similar to Weatherspoons high street and offers great value for money for the airport. Good choice of beers and wines.

This was a really nice restaurant to visit, it has a great name, vibrant atmosphere and spectacular views across the airport runway. The food here was nice, we enjoyed a delicious curry each & some great British drinks! Would certainly visit here again.

Just had breakfast at this restaurant (I hesitate to call it that) with family before a flight. We ordered 2 vegetarian breakfasts and a gluten free breakfast. The gluten free breakfast was spread out across the plate to make it look more than it was. There are endless options for gluten free sausages and gf bread on sale in Supermarkets across the country so why can’t Wetherspoons find them? The vegetarian breakfast looked reasonable until you tried to eat it. The fried eggs were so rubbery that my knife almost bounced off them. The sausages were so hard and solid they could have knocked someone out at 20 paces. There was a dish of tepid baked beans, in fact everything was tepid, including the rather bitter cafe. The lady taking our order was insolent and unfriendly. The only saving grace were two charming males members of staff, The Team Leader and The Shift Leader. They were clearly embarrassed at the food and one brought us HOT coffees after we complained. The whole experience was not pleasant and very costly, although our own sense of humour was able to save the day.
We would never eat there again and would not recommend it to anyone. I hate to imagine what foreigners must think of British food if that is their first experience. Thank goodness it is in Departures! Not good enough

Please accept my apologies for not responding to you sooner, but I wanted to discuss with my line manager before doing so and we have investigated the circumstances around your visit. I was the Shift Leader you mentioned and I have also spoken to the Team Leader that you referenced in your review. I will try and deal with the points you raised in the same order that you raised them:

Our menu clearly states that our Gluten-free breakfast contains eggs, bacon, beans, tomato and mushrooms. The beans are in a ramekin to allow them to retain more heat. The plate is the size that the plate is, so I am not sure how it was “spread out”. I believe you received all the components you should have.

Thank you for highlighting your issues with the gluten-free sausages – that has been fed back to our food development team. We proudly use the Quorn vegetarian sausage and will very shortly be switching to the Quorn vegan sausage, as we are set to launch a new vegan breakfast.

To be honest, the eggs do cause a bit of discussion, as they are perfectly round due to the operational manner in which they are cooked, but they are standard hens eggs, cracked and cooked to order. I apologise that you nearly lost control of your knife when trying to cut yours.

And yes, those Quorn sausages certainly are made firm and compact. I certainly wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of one from 20 paces! All items are cooked to the specification set out for us, but I fully appreciate that different people have different preferences.

I have also discussed your comments that the food was tepid, with our kitchen manager and he is looking in to that and speaking to his team, to ensure there are no repeats. It is not an issue that we encounter very often, despite the high volumes of food we sell, daily. I’d like to again apologise that this happened on your visit. Things like this are the reason that diners receive a checkback, so that we have the opportunity to put things right, that may not be to the customers’ preference.

I see from your transaction that you ordered some of our filter coffees with free refills. They are a very difficult drink for us to serve tepid, but I have taken the opportunity to remind staff to heat the cups before serving hot drinks in future, as this can be a reason for some heat loss. I’m told a 10 degree loss can be experienced, if using an un-warmed cup. We use 100% Lavazza Arabica beans and are incredibly popular with passengers and airport staff alike, so these comments did certainly catch us by surprise.

I have discussed the manner in which your order was taken, with the MAN who took your order. I can confirm, contrary to your review and having viewed CCTV, it was indeed a male member of staff. Again, I apologise whole-heartedly that you felt that the service was conducted in this manner and I am thankful for your remarks about myself and my colleague. However, I must clear up that my reaction was not one of embarrassment, but one of surprise. Having spoken to my colleague (the Team Leader) and viewed CCTV, I can confirm that you received your food approximately 9 minutes after ordering. My colleague performed a “checkback” in under 4 minutes and was told “the eggs seemed rubbery”. He offered to replace the meal, but this was turned down. He instead replaced the coffees, as requested. It is our policy to replace an entire meal if any of the components are not satisfactory. I really do wish you had allowed us to do this. I would have personally seen to it that your replacement meals reached you in tip-top condition.

When I came to clear the plates at the end of your meal and checked on your satisfaction – as I try and do with all guests, I was told “The food was horrible” and I gave a gentle, apologetic smile. This was where my surprise began, as the plates were completely empty. However, I still offered to do something about it. You turned this down by saying my colleague had sorted you out and that everything was “ok now”. My quietness to your humorous questions, such as “You clearly don’t eat here, do you?”, was so that I did not come across as rude, or say anything that could cause offence. I am disappointed that mine and my colleagues attempts to
resolve the situation at the time were not taken-up, based on how dreadful your visit was to us.

Once again, I apologise that your visit to us was not a good one and I do hope it didn’t put too much of a dampener on your day.

Best wishes,
Clayton (Shift Leader)

The Flying Chariot is a typical airport pub located landside at Heathrow Terminal 2. Drinks are expensive but not too much of a rip off although the pub is a nice place to be.

Well I was at arrivals at fancied a pint. However, arrivals only has coffee so if you take the very long escalator outside you come to the Flying Chariot in Departures. A long bar with quick service. Not quite Weatherspoon prices you get elsewhere, but to be excepted. A large TV downstairs and a large upper seating area.
