I booked a 2 night stay at this hotel on a single room basis. I made the reservation via booking.com. After receiving confirmation of my booking I received a call from the Hotel informing me that the room had been double booked and that they could accommodate me for an extra £15 as I would have to take a double room for the first night then move to a single room for the 2nd night. I asked if the hotel could cover the extra cost as I had my confirmation, but they declined so i cancelled the booking. As far as I could tell from my conversation with the hotel, they resold the room after a guest failed to arrive, but by pure coincidence the guest arrived at the same time i booked my room online so honoured their room and tried to pass their mistake on to me. Unbeknown to the receptionist I could hear his conversation with his manager who showed little understanding and insisted on charging full rate, despite it being their mistake. It's just unfortunate that such a poor level of customer service can be found in such a great part of the UK.

This historical building has been kept in very good condition. Clean accommodation and friendly staff too.
The room was somewhat small for two people but full of character.
It is well worth the price we paid. The Weatherspoon below was good. We had a Pizza and a lovely bottle of wine for a reasonable price

Pros

Good location
reasonable food & drinks
rooms are modernised, clean & well maintained
staff were friendly and accommodating

Cons

This pub is VERY popular which means if you have a room that faces the front and are staying on a weekend you get the full brunt of the more "lively" clientele . Plus every single person driving through Bewdley after midnight seems to own a car with a jet pack attached to the exhaust. Imagine Piccadilly Circus x Brands Hatch = we had about 2 hours sleep on Friday & Saturday night. The noise they made is insane and it went on for hours. I was informed by the receptionist that you have a warning on Wetherspoon website before booking about the noise, if so, that's fair enough (I didn't book the hotel so I wasn't aware of that)

The staff were all very nice but seem to struggle to cope with the amount of punters. The tables are left with dirty plates and glasses piled up for ages, the area by the bar Friday & Saturday (both day & night) was literally log jammed with hundreds of dirty glasses & cups waiting to be cleaned. this gives a poor 1st impression

Bit of a rowdy crowd in the beer garden on a weekend. 3 bouncers in the beer garden entrance & 2 on the front entrance - nuff said.

A lovely old property, with lots of outside seating - rooms large and well set up - plenty of tea, coffee and bottled water (much appreciated in the very hot weather) replenished daily. Only down side lots of stairs, may prove a problem for people with mobility problems. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will stay again

The George in Bewdley Load Street is also a hotel. Wetherspoons do the hotel bit really well. Great to look out on the lovely buildings opposite. All you could want- except- quiet telly, which we understand but no words to help us to get what was happening. One of the perils of ageing I guess. Everyone was very friendly.

Room Tip: 102 was on the front, on the first floor, and there is a lift
