If you have the good fortune to be visiting Xishuangbanna Autonomous Tai Prefecture in southern Yunnan, the Tai Garden is a great place to stay. It is surrounded by lush gardens, so is very quiet. It has a new wing for those seeking more modern lodgings, but the original building is still very good. WiFi is strong and free. Service is very good, and my room was kept very clean. Breakfast was just ok, and forget about having dinner at the hotel but many nice restaurants are nearby (all Chinese, but serving many different varieties). Service was very good, and staff were helpful in making an airline booking on the internet. I stayed for 4 days and was very satisfied.

Thai Garden (Daiyuan) Hotel, very nice property but a little tricky. NO ENGLISH SPOKEN HEAR. They have 2 hotels there one is called the Tai Garden and the other is called the New Tai Garden Hotel. One they say is rated as a 5 star and the other a 4 star. However the pictures on all the advertisements mixes the best of each and worst of all they book you into their 3rd hotel which is a 3 star at best but really a no star. There are about 75 rooms there with no lobby or help, you book into the 4 star then walk about a block away. It is much older and has no internet. The rooms are clean but all the things they tell you such as breakfast, business center, etc are all at the other place. There are no restaurants at any although they say they have them. On the plus side although not as convenient as you are led to believe the “place” is clean but old and out of date. For the price in this area it is a little high for what you get. But like I said the worst is being misled by the pictures. Make sure when you book you are in one of the “main” hotels and the room has internet. Near the front gate which is about 200 meters from the hotel to your left as you go out is a pretty good local Thai style restaurant.

Room Tip: You do not want the "B" building unless you get no star prices.

Stayed here for 2 nights, the room, bed sheets and towels are clean. Room is very spacious with a balcony. Can't compare to international standards but it is the best hotel in this area before Anatara and Crowne Plaza opens in 2013.
