Sever of us enjoyed a lovely dinner. Salad that was included with dinner was very good. Service was also very good. Several different entrees ordered, scallops, crab cake, lamb and tuna. All enjoyed. The ladies that ordered the scallops only wished the portion was larger. Nice wine selection by the glass also.
Can't wait to return when in the area again.

Had planned on quite a different venue in another town for a celebratory dinner with friends when my call for reservations revealed that it was Commencement and there were NO tables available until 7:45. Lots of texts back and forth before settling on Bistro 71, a bistro I'd not visited for nearly six years. "There's a patio," said my friend as final encouragement and an hour later we were sitting around a table on said patio on a PERFECT June evening. We had a good time. Staff were extremely pleasant and competent, a huge improvement over my last visit.
We had a cheese board with our decent house Pinot Noir as a starter as tables inside and around us filled up. The mood was decidedly lively and my friend explained that the present ownership is having quite an impact on local eateries. My starter of seared tuna with fried avocado arrived and it was delightful. Friends had crab cakes and trout and gave their plates high marks. My mussels arrived and I tucked in . They were the disappointment of the evening. Fat and flavorless. No worries. We did not stay for dessert, opting for a visit to a local custard stand instead.
We WILL return to the patio at Bistro 71. Perfect spot to spend an evening.

In Chambersburg for the first time to watch our daughter compete in the state track meet in nearby Shippensburg. Bistro 71 was a great find! Had a wonderful dinner of crab cakes for me and prime rib for my hubby, washed down with some good drinks. Ate at the bar and enjoyed friendly conversation with the bartenders/waiters. Even met another couple and had a lively talk about the Pittsburgh/Washington,D.C. sports rivalry. A great intro to a quaint city. We know where to stop if we're ever back in town.

As we were proceeding from the interstate, we pull in to a totally unfamiliar area to try to find a place to eat. Based on past reviews, we gave this one a try. Could not have picked a better place.
Incredibly, they have homemade bread and butter which was delicious. Could it be that we were just hungry? Doubtful, as the calamari was outstanding. One of us had the halibut special, while the other had the spiced Ahi tuna. Both were served over a bed of risotto and they were absolutely outstanding. This was incredibly surprising given that it is not close to water! Still, the kitchen was spot on. Even the vegetables, both carrots and asparagus, we're very well-made.
The service was impeccable, from the bartender to our server. Everyone cared to make sure you were having a good time and we're not bothered too much, yet had everything you needed. We would definitely recommend this place and would come here again.
One sidenote-this is not cheap. The main entrée prices range from $20-$30. We think it was worth it given the presentation and the taste, but that may drive some people off.

After all of the other rave reviews, we were really looking forward to trying Bistro 71. We were left at our table for over 15 minutes with glasses of water, nothing else, not even a menu. The service continued to be slow all evening. We ordered the lobster and crab dip and the hummus for appetizers for the table. The hot dip was okay, sort of bland, not a lot of flavor. The hummus was good. The drinks that we ordered ran the gamut from quite tasty (the Gin Joint) to lighter fluid(the elderflower white cosmo). After the appetizers and the tasty salads, we once again sat with an empty table and waited for the entrees for another 15 to twenty minutes. Dinner was okay, but nothing to write home about. We were rather disappointed as appetizers, salads, and entrees took over two hours and there were many lapses where our table was empty. We aren't sure is this is a typical evening or if everything was just "off" tonight. We will be willing to give it another try, but maybe for lunch and not dinner.
