This grand lodge built in 1937-38 is extra special when you spend the night in one of the historic rooms, updated but using reproduced fabric patterns from the originals and still using hNdmade door hinges and special appointments. The views to the south of Mt Jefferson and the Cascades or north to Mt Hood are spectacular. Breakfast and dinner were enjoyed in the Cascades Dining Room, with lots of options for dietary preferences including vegan.

This was my 3rd time staying at the lodge for a family event...so I knew what to expect. Timberline lodge is a beautiful, historic building nestled on the side of a beautiful Mt Hood. The lodge building itself is architecturally stunning. The staff is friendly and helpful. Food options are limited to the upstair tavern (Ramshead) and a more formal dining area on the ground floor. Food is decent in the restaurant, but pricing is at the high end. The rooms suffer from architectural limitations, are oddly shaped and have limited counter space. In our room the toilet was situated in a corner of the bathroom and the wall to the side and in front of the toilet was so close that only a very small person could sit normally. You had to stand at the side. No counter to place anything. Bathroom doors often don't stay closed either (they seem to latch and then magically open on their own). Our room, 315, was right next to the elevator and we could hear it quite loudly through most of the night. Noise from the hallway was barely muted by the door. Also a bedside floor lamp was leaning over and the lampshade was dangling by the lightbulb. The bed was comfortable, if you could sleep despite the noise. Being at the lodge is a cool experience and rooms on the mountain side (like 315) have a great view up to the ski area and mountain top. Just be prepared for a room that would be rated 2 or 3 star if not part of this grand building in this grand location.

Room tip: We would not recommend room 315 but rooms on the north side have a mountain view

Timberline Lodge was recommended to us by friends living near Portland and provided a unique and wonderful experience.

Impressive history and architecture, great hotel staff and onsite National Park Service support, beautiful location.

I've taken two small groups to Timberline Lodge this summer. The architecture is stunning; huge timber beams and rock center fire place. It has hand crafted iron, wood carvings, and art throughout.

The view of Mt. Hood just before you, and the forest to the south is amazing.

The only detraction is the price of food and drink.

For someone visiting Portland, a trip to Timberline Lodge should be considered.

Room tip: The "economy" rooms, which I use, have shared bathrooms which isn't a big deal. They keep them clean.

This is an Awesome and charming old lodge, that comes with friendly staff and a beautiful view. The rooms are small, but cozy. The restaurant has NW cruise and their food is always good. The lounge area has a beautiful old wood fireplace where you can hang out and use WiFi.
