Love the way they are set up with three different businesses including a cafe that becomes a bar from 4 PM, a small restaurant, and delicious doughnut holes twice a week. We will go again!

Visiting from DC I was surprised to find a trendy place in Salem with a great atmosphere, cool drinks, and a kickass menu. The espresso martini is like the best thing I have ever drank. It was ice cold and tasted like a nitro coffee. The staff are all super friendly and even remembered us from the night before. Only criticism is, the drinks take a minute to be prepared but I’ll forgive the time since they taste so good.

Very posh look to this cafe, with stainless steel tables and a centre-of-the-room bar surrounds by interesting nooks and various seating types, they serve somewhat spendy coffee drinks in the day, and a full bay at night. Interesting two story look with book shelves in this archival-library-inspired look. They serve somewhat spendy lunch items (not yet tried). Easy street parking on Liberty and State with 3 hr free spaces. Some few outdoor seats on street. Building is immaculate recently (2014?) restored to original period architectural specs and one of the best in the downtown. Other eateries and cafes nearby. University students will find it difficult to use tables, with few plugs for the devices. and bring a mouse pad because stainless steel does not like optical mice. Nice lunchtime to evening meeting location. for small to medium groups. Some large tables.

The staff are very welcoming and warm, the coffee was good, the baked items were delicious (strawberry and balsamic scone FTW!) and the environment is comfortable and cool, if wavering ever so slightly on the self-conscious end of the scale, with custom pipe bookshelves of 'genuine antique books!' all over the place.

Archive probably has the best black coffee in town, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. I would say that this isn't the best place to go and study though, the wifi never works (have been going here for over a year and always have to use the wifi next door), and most of the tables are pretty small, not enough room for a laptop + books. BUT, if you want a good catch up, and some great coffee, this is the place!
