My family of 5 rented the Mississippi bungalow for Christmas through the new year. The house is lovely. It is a large open home a short walk away from the Mississippi Avenue shops and restaurants. Very handy to have a washer and dryer as well as a completely equipped kitchen (although with so many good food options, we did not cook). When considering this home, one should understand that the upstairs bedroom (which is huge) is accessed through the 2nd bedroom. This was not a problem for us, but it could be for some. There is also one bathroom, which I was initially concerned about, but the bath is large enough that this was not a problem at all. This is an old house, but well taken care of. For me, the quirks of the house are part of the charm, but if you need new and shiny, this is not it.
If you have a car, the driveway is very steep. Our car did drag, but ours is pretty low to the ground. There is plenty of street parking, so this is easily remedied.
Mark and Bethany are lovely hosts and very responsive to any needs or questions. Mark is even super fast on refunding your deposit after check out. Got mine back in two days. We had no issues with our stay. Check in/out was easy and well explained. House was very clean and comfy. I even slept well in the nice big bed. Wifi worked very well too. This house is a great find.
Places of note nearby.....Victoria is directly across the street. Beautiful new bar with a nice staff. Sit at the bar, have a punch of the day with the mac and cheese. You will not regret it.
A few blocks down there is BarBar for a nice burger/beer and lovely large patio (though it was cold so we did not get to enjoy the patio)
Check out Paxton Gate for an odd taxidermy filled shopping experience.
If you are so inclined to partake of Oregon's recreational marijuana, Nectar dispensary is about 3 blocks down the street. Really nice place with a friendly staff.
And lastly, let's talk coffee..... I tried many coffee places while visiting the Land of Coffee and my favorite was Albina Press. They serve Stumptown coffee and it is divine. Luckily it is less than a block away from the house. You can see it from the front porch! I had to refrain from visiting too often. It's really good and so convenient.
