My wife and I stayed the first and third nights of a 3 night trip to Oregon and it was our third night at the Inn in total. The first night on this trip suffered from a faulty wi-fi and TV connection as well as an in-room coffee maker that didn't work. Everything else about this hotel is excellent and we will try to stay here on future trips to Portland.

Room Tip: We have occasionally been unable to book a room because it is full, so plan ahead.

Who did you stay with the second night? Not that we’re jealous. It’s totally fine if you want to see other hotels. We’re hip. We’re modern! And admittedly we do see other people as well so as you said it’s often good to call ahead -- in fact, calling will almost always assure you the best room rates. Thank you for the review!

Excellent hotel, rooms are equiped with a full kitchen & seating area. Plenty of room to spread out. Bed was very comfortable & room was very clean. Noise from other guests/road minimal.
Perfect location in the pearl/NW district, street car stop directly outside the entrance (don't forget to ask for your free tickets). Great bars/cafes/shops within walking distance.
Don't be put off by the bright decor, it's not a gimmick.
The continental breakfast set us up perfectly for the day. Free parking too.

Thanks a ton for your review, but we at the Inn would like to remind the thousands (perhaps millions) of kids reading these hotel reviews that cool people definitely GO to school. Every day. For no less than 16 years. And after that you can be “too cool for school” and plenty cool enough to come stay at our cool hotel. ;-)

All in all, I was pleased I chose to stay here.

The only problem was that I got the room directly adjoining the breakfast area and lobby. One gets to hear the breakfast crowd, the front desk attendant's conversations, and anyone who walks to their room from the lobby. I guess someone has to get that room, but I'd recommend asking for something else when you make your reservation. (Streetcar noise, as a few others have mentioned, was not a problem for me at all.)

The location is absolutely fantastic. Tons of restaurants and neat shops within easy walking distance. If you're a runner, Forest Park is only a couple miles away.

The room itself was about as functional as any I've ever stayed in. The bed was nice. Two TVs to choose from. Nice kitchen area with a fridge, microwave and oven/stove. It wasn't warm enough to use the balcony/patio, but that's a really nice touch.

Breakfast was perfectly acceptable, with several choices.

The staff was fine. If there's one thing I'd nitpick, it's that it would've been nice if I've have been asked how my stay was when I checked out.

I'd definitely consider going back when it Portland. The location is very hard to beat. But would also definitely ask for a different room next time.

Room Tip: Anything that's not directly next to the lobby/breakfast area. Some have said they preferred rooms on the back of the hotel, away from the streetcar line. But I really liked being able to look out on the street. And the streetcare noise was no problem for me. (And I'm a light sleeper.)

Thank you for this very balanced and fair review or our hotel. We totally understand that occasionally certain rooms are louder than others and we welcome our guests to come talk to us about any issues they are having with noise (or anything else). We’re glad that you liked so many parts of your stay and will continue to try to improve those pieces that didn’t quite hit the mark. Cheers!

The Inn at Northrup Station was a true find, discovered through reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel is unpretentious (except maybe in its hip decor) but comfortable and friendly. All the rooms are suites with a sitting area, desk, and full kitchen, decorated in bright colors with local art. Nice touches are the recycle bins in each room, bungie cord office chair, a Keurig coffee maker (though the Tully coffee was underwhelming), fresh fruit and yogurt available at all hours, glass art in the dining area, a wine reception on Wednesdays with 2 free pours, etc. Breakfast was not hot, with the exception of make-you-own-waffles, but there were hard boiled eggs, a selection of cereals including a gluten free cereral and granola, bagels, and a variety of yogurts. The staff is super friendly. The hotel is on a streetcar line and you can get free tickets from the front desk. One does hear the tram go by, but in the back rooms it is a mere generalized rumble, not anything too disturbing. We didn't check out the upper level patio as it was raining throughout our stay but it looked inviting. Parking is free. There are two restaurants just across the street: the Wildwood, which is a hip bar and eatery with some excellent, creative dishes and a happy hour from 5 - 6:30 at which drinks and appetizers are half price, and a Moroccan restaurant that serves an inexpensive, fixed price, 5 course menu. Just a couple of blocks away is a whole slew of restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side of the hotel have less noise from the streetcar.

Great to see when people notice some of the smaller details that make our hotel such a fun place to hang your hat for a night (or three). Thanks for being so detailed with your stay information on the local spots. Hope to see you again soon!

Fun, quirky hotel close to the Pearl District (lots of great restaurants and microbreweries).

Likes-
-Room was very clean and spacious (included a kitchenette)
-Free parking
-Street car stop within steps of the front door
-Walking distance to lots of food and drinking establishments (Check out Saint Honore French bakery)
-Quiet rooms - Didn't hear a lot of road noise or noise from other guests
-Free Wi-Fi

Dislikes-
-Breakfast was nothing special. However, there are so many great food places in Portland, why waste a meal at a hotel?

We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Northrup Station and we will be staying here again during our next visit to PDX.

Room Tip: For a really quiet room, request a room along the backside of the hotel.

We can live with those likes and dislikes! It’s true, breakfast here may be better than your average continental fare, since we have make-your-own waffles and a good selection of cold items, but with so many great restaurants just a short walk away you can definitely do better if you have the time. Thank you for the review and we look forward to having you back on your next trip!
