Gracie's is inside the lovely art deco Hotel deLuxe. The service is excellent, the kitchen a bit slow. The food is well prepared - I had the Sunday-only prime rib which was delicious. My omelet the next morning was just ok, and I agree with a recent reviewer that the coffee was not great. No excuse for that in a restaurant this fine and a city like Portland.

With freshly squeezed orange juice, lottes and specialty coffees, 3 kinds of Benedicts, waffles, pancakes, eggs of all kinds, hash, various omlets, what more do you need? Good service, perhaps? They have the best: rapid, and super friendly.

Dinners: the menu is large, surprisingly large for a small place, and I was disappointed with only one item, the Dover Sole, so this is not a definitive review. Sole, IMHO, should never be rolled up and served on top of al-dente vegetables. This fish, one of the great sea-food delicacies, deserves better than this. Desserts, tho (the 3 of us had 3 different: the fruit crumb cake - actually a rhubarb crumble with ice cream; the semi-freddo cheese cake; and the creme brulee.) were excellent, so we know they can do some things well, even very well.

We stayed in the DeLuxe and ate breakfast at Gracie's two days but the coffee was sub-par so we went out on the third day to another restaurant.

We have eaten at Gracie's several times and have never been disappointed. Service is quite good and the food is excellent. We particularly enjoy breakfast and brunch at Gracie's.
