Great beach access from the free parking lot. One must only walk over a medium high sand dune and there it is - a beach vista with a long, wide and exceptionally clean beach. The view stretches from the Pelican Pub area to the north to the south for several miles. This is a great walking beach with lot of shells and other fun things to find on the beach. Many people with dogs, some people on horse back in an organized group, a few kite fliers and many people,(not as crowded as many beach areas), just walking and enjoying the sights. Whether here for only a few hours or for all day, it is a wonderful place on the coast to visit.

This is our second trip to this park. The first being 9 years ago. You climb over some sand dunes and have a wonderful uncrowded beach area .The climb over the dunes could be strenous for some . We found several sand dollars on the beach.

Bob Straub State Park is filled with nice shady trails that cover marsh, bay, riverside, and wooded areas with access to the beach and Pacific Ocean. We chose the River trail. The scenery was beautiful but it can be tough hiking due to deep sand on much of the trail. The trails were well marked and matched our map. Restrooms were clean and the area is pretty. Looks like a great place to ride a horse!

Wonderful natural area at the opposite end of the beach from the Pelican Pub. Wander a mile or two down the beach collecting whole sand dollars. End at the entrance of the Nestucca River into the ocean. There is usually a pod of seals on the beach and great crabbing! What a special adventure! Dogs off the leash are okay here. Let them run.

The "other" haystack rock can be seen here. Very sandy nice beach. We were there early in the morning - had it mostly to ourselves & we even saw a cute little "sea" deer when we pulled up! This area of the coast is a bit off the beaten path, but totally worth the drive if you like a more remote beach & wildlife!
