Just before entering North Bend Coos Bay from the North 101 is this memorial. Since so many US personel have been killed wounded or mia. I think there is a lack of memorials. IN Britain every village has memorials as young men who grew up together, fought and died together. Memorials in many places are second to the valor of these service people who gave their lives for this Republic.

If it wasn’t right next to the highway, we would’ve have not known about it or stopped. Location is everything and so we stopped and checked it out. It is a nice memorial set in beautiful scenery. It’s worth the stop to stretch your legs and get a snack.

It's immediately adjacent to Highway 101, so it is a quick and easy stop -- and well worth a few minutes of your time. It's a very nice idea to have this kind of veterans memorial in plain sight, instead of off the beaten path. The sponsors took a lot of care in designing it, and someone takes a lot of care in maintaining it. Well done.

Great view. They have added picnic tables and are reinforcing the bank from erosion which improves the stop. It is not large though and is very near the highway. It is popular with bicyclists and other 101 commuters. The turnoff is slightly tricky so be careful.

I'd been driving too long, it was past time to take a break and knock off the road dust so we pulled in to this spot overlooking the bay North of N. Bend. We had a pleasant lunch and enjoyed the view. Afterwards we strolled around and realized that this spot was actually a memorial to American soldiers. Talk about low key attractions, we have driven past this spot dozens of times and never realized this low key spot existed!
The grounds are spotlessly maintained. There are thousands of bricks with the names of men and women who served our country in the armed forces. I was moved by the simple, but moving memorial. If you are passing by, it can be worth your time to check it out. I am now thinking about having a memorial brick for my father.
