“best kept secret park around. Very peaceful”
Reviewed 24 August 2008

This is a fantastic park, with a little museum and gift shop, some costumed re-enactment volunteers to explain the history of the area. Very dog friendly with a small off-leash area. Great paved trail along the Willamette River and all the way to the Butteville Store for an ice cream or just a rest on the rocking chairs on the front porch! Biking trail is easy and flat. Yurts and lovely little cabins available for an affordable overnight escape from Portland, or longer. Quiet and peaceful park. Disc (frisbee) golf course, clean bathrooms. $3.00 parking for a day, or the best thing is like $20 all year pass to every single park in Oregon (will pay for itself with a few visits) Please don't go to Champoeg if you want to blare your music or WOO WOO all night long. It's more for birdwatching and mellowing

“Great car camping near Portland”
Reviewed 17 September 2007

We liked this place so much that we joined Tripadvisor to write a review since it didn't have one.

This is a quiet park near the Willamette River. It has tent sites, RV hookups and a small selection of yurts and cabins if you are looking for more of a no hassle experience. If you have a bike there is a trail which provides a great way to get around the park and to a small general store reported to have WiFi access. There is a public dock from which one can fish but swimming is prohibited because of water skiers and wake boarders on the river.

The highlight for me and my wife was the 15 hole frisbee golf course. It is unintimidating and clearly layed out so novice players can learn the game without losing a bunch of discs or getting lost themselves. Discs are even available for purchase at the ranger station.

The town of Newburg is just a couple of miles away. It has around 20K residents and has several grocery, gas and restaurant options.
