We thought we were going to eat at McKee Bridge only to find it closed (looked like for a while) so we headed down the road. One of our gals was in need of food so when we saw the sign, we pulled in.

At first we were a little surprised when we walked in but I always think you can find gems in the most unusual places. You could see this was a favorite with locals - okay.... maybe the only place. Ha

At first it concerned me. The menus were very worn and it was all men sitting at the bar with two small tables. Our server was polite and attentive and the food arrived quickly. I had chili and 1/2 a veggie sandwich. They were both great. You could tell they were fresh and made there.

My friend was very pleased with her BLT and also enjoyed the chili. She also said she really enjoyed how fresh it all was and that it surprised her. The price was average and I would make the stop again.

Cafe Ruch is just about the only place to eat in the small town of Ruch. But that's ok because it's good. We ate here out of necessity as the 2 places serving food in nearby Applegate were closed and we were too hungry to drive to Jacksonville. Plus we found out from the Cafe Ruch folks that the restaurant at McKee Bridge is also closed. So, if you're in the Applegate in the afternoon and you need food Cafe Ruch is the place.

The food was good and made fresh. I had the meatball sub and it was clearly made with homemade meatballs and fresh bread. Prices are also quite reasonable. And Cafe Ruch is also a convenience store so get lunch and grab a candy bar for the road.

We have been here many times and we always love the food and atmosphere. Very casual, like an old diner feel, and the food is wonderful. Freshly prepared, lots of weekday specials to keep you coming back. They have a whole refrigerator of beers and wine and such to buy, along with 3-4 local beers on tap. We highly recommend the pastrami, and the gyro. Lots of meat in their sandwiches and lots of fun time along the way. Great place to stop when wine tasting to get a break from the normal fare.
