We first visited Spindrift 30 years ago when it was a B&B. Its location is perfect - offering a commanding view of the beach and dunes, easy beach access from path bordering the property. It's also a short drive into Old Town Bandon and, of course, an easy 10-minute ride to Bandon Dunes.
Since that first stay, the house has been divided into two rental units. The main house, aka "The Helm", has a bedroom, bath down the hall, big living room with expansive beach view, secondary living/TV room, huge kitchen and a second bedroom and bath adapted in DIY fashion from what once was the garage. "The Starboard" is a semi-self-contained unit with its own small, view living room, a dinky kitchenette wedged into a corner, bedroom and bath. Renters have the option of leaving open the double doors between The Helm and The Starboard, assuming they rented both units.
The house is comfortable. There is nothing high-end or fancy about it, other than the location. It seems perfect for a family with kids and it's dog-friendly and dog-appropriate.
Some earlier visitors complained about a lack of kitchen utensils and such, but we found the kitchen very well supplied. The appliances are low-end but they work. The owners have provided a huge cache of games and puzzles and the wood-burning fireplace (wood is included!) works fine. It's thoughtfully laid out for guest convenience.
It's also done for owner peace of mind, as there is not a whole lot any guest can damage. It's the kind of place an owner doesn't need to worry about. The inside is nothing at all special, just serviceable.
The shower-tub combos are built for small folks. I'm 5-11, 220# and it was a tight squeeze.
The next question the survey asks is "would you recommend this place to a friend?" I'm answering yes, but it's more nuanced than that.
If my friend has kids and maybe a big dog, absolutely. It's a place the kids and dog can't hurt, you can't find a place with easier beach access, and as noted there are plenty of games. There's a big dining table and all you could want to fix big family dinners. And the location is simply terrific.
For couples or for anything remotely elegant, though, I'd say there are better beachfront options.
