The NWC houses about 550 people. This includes research scientists, operational meteorologists and climatologists, engineers, technicians, support staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. It is a unique confederation of The University of Oklahoma, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and state organizations that work together in partnership to improve understanding of events occurring in Earth’s atmosphere over a wide range of time and space scales.

Sadly disappointed with this tour. Good job it was free. Tour guide spent most of the time talking about campus life and how much fun the meteorology department was, not much weather talk. Actual tour was very brief and did not see very much. Maybe a different guide would have been better?

This is a great place to visit. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. It is free to tour, but you have to book in advance. This gives you an inside view of where weather is monitored nation wide!

I was there with a motorcoach group. Total of 46 in group but they kindly accommodated us all in the same group. This place was fascinating! Loved the weather sphere, weather wall, the top floor where a lot of weather watching occurs. Our guide was so informative and upbeat about every part of the weather and the school. This stop was definitely a homerun! Some even visited the Flying Cow Café!

At the time I went it was only opened several times a week for visitors that had made a reservation in advance. It was very interesting to see the advances in enhanced dopler radar imaging and how well data integration from sateilites works. OU has been doing a great deal of work in conjunction with DARPA at this NOAA facility fro several years.
