“A Fun 2 Hour Adventure in Ohio”
Review of Loveland Castle

Loveland Castle
Ranked #2 of 10 things to do in Loveland
Certificate of Excellence
Attraction details
Reviewed 26 December 2016

I went here with my sweetheart as a side trip from Columbus to another place ranked ranked as one of the "Top 12 small cities with a cool vibe" in Ohio. The top attraction was the Loveland castle and I have to admit it exceeded my expectations, primarily because of the history (not to have too many spoilers but it was to help out the local Boy Scout program) and Sir David our tour guide who knew all the details of the history. The castle is a smaller recreation and had amazing detail considering it was really just a pet project. We saw the castle, dungeon, outside area (pretty big), area where there is a large fire pit for Boy Scout and Renaissance events, and an outside walking area with an assortment of plans. You could probably walk through the castle and grounds in about 30 minutes and get a feel, but we stayed almost 2 hours thanks to Sir David providing a personalized tour.

We went because we thought it's one of those places "you just have to see" because it's there. It's cheap enough to visit but if you're sensitive to musty smells and dark, narrow places this may not be a tour you want to take! Otherwise, it's a unique experience.

On the right bank of the Miami river presides a handmade castle built by Harry Andrews open only Saturday and Sunday. This river rock castle stands as witness of one man's dream and is a great example of human persistence and endurance.
At the entrance is a guide who can answer any questions one may have.Later in the day this guide put up a magik show for all present. While all activities were free we were kindly asked to buy something from the teacher supply website as a thank you.The castle is open to visit until 5 PM.
We had a nice picnic here,no food concessions present -bring your own.Saw canoeing action down the river and wished the castle had some for rent.
Overall a nice experience!

This from the outside looks like a small castle compared to European castles. We were unable to walk the grounds or get a tour due to the unposted "Winter Hours" on the sites we visited for information. If you don't like winding roads, you might need to avoid driving to it. The roads are narrow, steep and winding. I managed to take some pretty pictures, but that was all we were able to do.

We visited this castle after receiving a travel tip from TripAdvisor. Amazing architecture, great story surrounding the background of this structure and the man who designed it. Beautiful gardens and interesting employees. We had a great time.
