On our way from Launceston to Hobart, we stayed at Piermont Retreat for one night as it is about halfway down the road if you take the East Coast route. Sitting on the edge of a bay, this expansive retreat has a great view afforded by most of the cottages scattered on the property. The main building serves as a reception and dining room where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.
Our Spa Suite was spacious, clean, and elegantly furnished. The bathroom has a picturesque view of the sea through its large frame windows. There is also a balcony with sunbeds, although when we were there autumn already started and it was too cold and windy to sit outside. Likewise, it was too chilly to use the pool (unheated) or have a dip in the sea. The beach is a bit rocky, so it's only good for some walking.
The on-site Homestead restaurant offers fine dining showcasing some Tasmanian produce. Most guests would have dinner here, as it takes some time to drive to town (Swansea). The food had good quality but not that exciting (my main and entree looked almost the same, just different meat). I was disappointed that the lavender ice cream wasn't available as dessert, and I had to settle for a rather boring chocolate trifle.
In the colder months, prices are significantly lower but we still paid $415 for the night's accommodation, and breakfast was not included (you'd have to pay an extra $30 per person). Add to this the dinner bill that's almost $200 for two, and we got the biggest daily spend in our Tasmanian trip. Which is OK for a one-time experience, but I'm just not sure that the value matches the price tag.
