I stayed one night and it was perfect. I can’t fault anything. Nice and quiet with no busy roads which is fantastic. A short drive to food places and walking distance to the water front. Friendly and relaxing. Cleanliness to perfection. The room was spacious and modern obviously renovated. I will be back.

The hotels catch phrase, of being " a nice place to stay" pretty much sums it up brilliantly. It is a well maintained 1970s era hotel / motel arrangement, but the rooms and grounds have been well maintained and in fact the room i stayed in had been recently upgraded in a very good manner. Very good value for money. A couple of critiques. The heating is of a manual nature which works well but takes a while to heat up. Sometimes there is a train around 5.30am or 6am but this wakes the whole of Devonport and is not limited to this hotel. Can strongly recommend this hotel for an affordable comfortable stay.

We stayed 2 nights in an extremely clean comfortable and obviously newly renovated 2 bedroom unit.
Our friends stayed in a studio unit and that was equally impressive.
The area was quiet.
One of the bedrooms had a new television and the lounge area also had same.
There were plenty of spare pillows. Electric blankets on all beds which were welcome.
The cutlery and crockery were in excellent condition.
We didn’t do any cooking but had brought some breakfast items with us.
It really is a lovely motor inn and I would highly recommend it

We stayed 4 nights at the Barclay Motor Inn. We had a 2 bedroom apartment and it was nice and clean. It has everything you need in the kitchen for cooking.
The motel is within walking distance to the town centre - about 10-15 minutes walk and the same distance to the beach. The owner is very friendly to deal with. The boys loved this place as it has a tennis court and a heated swimming pool.
We will definitely stay here again!

I'll start with the negatives. Room rather outdated but worse was the really uncomfortable bed in the main room. I'd really like management to try & sleep on it & see what i mean. Quite thin walls so i heard the people next door talking loudly at 10.30 last night. Also if you're a light sleeper beware as there is a train line nearby that doesn't run often but does at about 2.30am & it toots it's horn anywhere between 4 & 10 times, Yes we counted! Oh & weirdly no shampoo provided. Now for the positives. The 2 bedroom unit we had was spacious & the extra tv in the main bedroom was a bonus. The kids loved the pool & tennis courts. It had a 2 burner stovetop & microwave & full size fridge so we could cook meals. So plenty of room but $820 for 4 nights is more than what it's worth sorry.
