After a couple of meals at the more upmarket barnbougle dunes, we ventured into Bridport for a meal at the Bridport Hotel. What a great decision. Lamb shanks, steak and fish were all excellent - and the meringue berry sundae sensational. Great value, friendly service and atmosphere.

where do you start? Tv didn't work, Heater didn't work, windows didn't open, beds might have OK if I was 5 foot tall, Communal bathroom had black mold. Other than that meals were good and staff were very friendly

Room Tip: Pay more for another place

The basic accommodation, featuring an-room sink and mirror, a jug and coffee and tea facilities, a 30-odd year-old TV and a single bed is all you'd expect for $35 a night. It was spotlessly clean, if not aged, with a communal (and locakble) two-stall communal shower down the corridor. Having a bad back, I managed to score the firmest bed out of our party of six. However, being over 6' tall presented itself with its own problems when dealing with the length of a single bed. This is not the Hotel's fault by any measure and on the second night, I managed to reorganise the mattress so I could sleep comfortably. Doubles and twin rooms are also available. $35/person per night.
The bar was well staffed with lively and convivial people. Bar prices were, well, bar prices.
The outstanding highlight of the stay (not the golf, unfortunately, which was just ordinary for 5/6 of us) was the meals. A variety of local seafood and steak topped a fairly comprehensive menu with prices fair. The meals were decent sizes and I'd suggest the local (100m down the road) scallops when in season. The second night I had the 400g rump with seasonable vegetables and it was cooked to perfection (Med-Rare). Matt, the chef from England did a great job on both nights. The Thai Beef salad was also received well.
All-in-all, the pub was great: basic accommodation but at a fair price, excellent meals and a lively public bar to while away the post-golf hours. Friendly locals added to the ambience.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms 9 or 10 as they are furthest down the corridor from ther entrance. A mem's lavatory is across the hall.
