We received a warm welcome from the staff at this church when we visited it, and several members were also helpful in pointing out various features. The tower, with its spire, is 14c but the nave and chancel date from the 19c so are of little interest from an architectural history point of view. However, beneath the tower are two tombs chests. One has the outline of a knight incised into the top, whilst on the top of the other is the effigy of a woman. However, the real surprise is beneath this tomb. If you look down the back you will find the ghoulish stone statue of a skeleton.

We live in Uttoxeter and at least once a year have an opportunity to attend the memorial service close to the 11th of November. The church has lovely stained glass windows and it is a welcoming place for those seeking a quiet spiritual space. The Choir is exceptionally good and the Rememberance service is always very well attended.

We visited St Mary's in Uttoxeter which is a short walk from the main shopping area just over a busy road. t has a lovely 14th-century tower with a spire so looks unusual. Its worth walking around the outside in the churchyard so you can get a chance to see the building itself. The church yard looks well cared for. Sadly on this visit we didn't manage to see inside and we would have liked to see the stained glass windows from inside. We will be returning to Uttoxeter and leave more time to have a better look around.
