Visited today for the 10.30 tour with Bill, the interesting and knowledgable guide. Great tour of the house and kitchen area of this beautiful house. Then for afternoon tea in the cafe which was second to none. Great day, brilliantly organised and amazingly well kept house.

We were the only people on the 1030am tour so we had a guide to ourselves for 75 minutes. She was excellent and brought the house alive. The rooms are beautifully arranged with Chippendale furniture seemingly everywhere ! The location and views are wonderful. And the plants for sale were healthy and are thriving in my garden. The highlight of our holiday.

We visited Paxton House when we were on holiday in may 2018 . It has excellent grounds to wander round and the guide on the tour of the house was very informative and approachable

This turned out to be a truly delightful visit in every way. As we had previously done most of the usual places to visit around and about Haggerston we came across Paxton House. From start to finish there was plenty to do both within the the house and surrounding gardens. It costs around 9 pounds which covers a guided tour of the house and your own time in the gardens. The tour is just over an hour and to be honest I thought I might get bored.Nothing could be further from the truth. The female guide was outstanding with good knowledge,a very pleasant character and a sense of humour. I hope I have not got her name wrong but it was unusual, something like Wilma.Seek her out!

The house is larger than what it first appears and it is full of genuine Chippendale furniture . What is so good is that most of the the furniture, fittings and toys belong to the house and much more is yet to be displayed.Unlike a lot of National Trust houses which have furniture and fittings that have been brought in to illustrate the period.

After the tour, which flew by,there is a delightful Stable Cafe were everything is made on the premises and whilst not particulary cheap ,it is value for money and tastes delightful.

The gardens are a delight and there are many different routes ,some which are alongside the River Tweed. The nearby 'Chain Bridge' can be seen from the river bank.

For the younger children, and perhaps the adults too, there is a 'Teddy Trail ' both inside and outside the house.

All in all, a tremendous few hours spent here.Enjoy!

This is a Palladian Mansion in Scotland overlooking the River Tweed and the English border. House contains part of the Scottish National Gallery collection. Lovely walks in grounds by river. The tea room is excellent. It also hosts great chamber music.
